So the drones have arrived in Sydney.
They control the show, but can they control our minds?
This is a new version of one of the many images I have of the Drone Shows on Sydney Harbour, Sydney Cove and Darling Harbour during the Vivid Light Festivals of 2023 and 2024.
Photographed from beside the south-eastern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Along the Cahill Walkway. Next to the Cahill Expressway. No tripod - the camera was resting on the side of the harbour bridge, lol.

The structure immediately behind the train is a 'head house' giving maintenance access and ventilation for the Underground's Jubilee Line which runs beneath.

Die St. Marienkirche ist eine der großen Innenstadtkirchen Mindens mit eigenem Weinberg und Kräutergarten.
Am 25. Februar 2021 konnte ich die schön saubere 101 041-2 mit dem ziemlich langen IC 2311 am Haken bei Büschelskamp ablichten. Da die Loks der Baureihe 101 mittlerweile auch in die Jahre gekommen sind und schon ein paar bei der Deutschen Bahn aussortiert wurden, Z-gestellt sind bzw. nicht mehr benötigt werden, muss man sich langsam auch mit dieser Lokomotive befassen. Durch die vielen neuen ICE 4 und IC 2 geht es, nach der Abstellung der Baureihe 120, der Baureihe 101 an den Kragen. Eine Lok wurde schon an DB Systemtechnik in Minden veräußert. Auch interessant ist für mich, dass ich den obigen InterCity von Westerland auf Sylt nach Stuttgart Hbf bisher immer nur bewusst auf der Marschbahn abgelichtet habe. Mag vielleicht daran liegen, dass sein Laufweg über die Rollbahn führt und ich dort, wenn nicht gerade Umleiter fahren, eigentlich kaum zum Fotografieren bin. Denn bis auf die typischen Standardzüge wie Locon mit DE18 nach Grolland, Metrans nach Bremerhaven, die LINEAS-Züge, Hectorrail und die DB-Züge fährt kaum etwas regelmäßig bzw. planmäßig an Güterzüge dort entlang. Es kann also teilweise dort sehr öde sein und da aktuell auch der Flixtrain Hamburg-Köln nicht fährt, fällt noch ein durchaus interessanter P-Zug weg. Bei meinem Besuch in der Fotokurve war der IC nur Beiwerk und ich hatte es eigentlich auf umgeleitet Güterzuge abgesehen. Davon konnte ich auch ein paar in die Sammlung aufnehmen. Diese Fotos liegen aber teilweise noch unbearbeitet im Archiv...

Into the realm I found peace and kindness. I thought I would go to this hiking trail where I have been before. Seems like a great spot for some scenic wooded shots, and a wee bit of solitude.
(if you don't mind all the dog walkers with multiple dogs)
Camber Sands
Camber is a small resort in East Sussex and is not only famous for its sand dunes but its connection to the Pop and Film Industry.
Close to the River Rother the dunes stretch for 3 miles (just over 4.5km) and are unique to East Sussex. Part of the dunes are classified a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the residue are a Site of Nature Conservation Importance.
They were fortified during WWII because of their resemblance to both Desert and Normandy and intense training went on there. There is a ship which lies of the coast called the ‘Avon’ which went down in 1852 and the wreck can be seen at low tide.
Some of the films that were shot here include: The Longest Day; The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner; The Theory of Everything and for those who enjoy a more cultural frame of mind then go no further than ‘Follow That Camel’. What a treat.
Pop Artists include: Suede; Nick Heyward; Fatboy Slim; Paul McCartney and Wings and Squeeze, quite a line up. A terrific place for a beach holiday as there are lots of other things to do with kites, such as surfing; landboarding; buggying and other more physical exercise. Me I have a deckchair and a camera what more is needed. Oh yes, a picnic.
Having just purchased the Nikon Z100-400 S lens, I was desperate to try it, so I nipped out to nearby Plover Scar last night.
I knew that the tide would be pretty high at sunset, with high tide at 10pm, so that would give me a chance to isolate the diminutive Lighthouse with the setting sun behind.
The only trouble was the sky was pretty clear. Anyway, when I got there I could see that there was a hazy bank of cloud on the distant horizon which would diffuse the harsh setting sun at sunset. So that was good news!
The other good thing was that I could see that there was a sizeable group of Togs down on the shore, something I've never seen before here. It was either a Camera Club outing or a workshop. But now armed with this new telephoto, I had no intention of getting anywhere near the shoreline or that group!
So I set up the tripod and took this from the sea wall. This was exactly the shot I had in mind and the clouds really diffused the light and it also created this orange/golden glow. Believe it or not I have actually desaturated this a little from the original RAW file.
Anyway, my expensive purchase certainly lived up to its billing! I look forward to plenty more long lens work!
Seit Ende August 2023 fährt DB Cargo immer donnerstags ein Übergabezugpaar zum ehemaligen Kali-Bergwerk Sigmundshall in Mesmerode. Am 18.01.2024 war als Zuglok eine Lok der Baureihe 296 verplant. Die Seelzer 296er kommen nur äußerst selten auf die Strecke, weil sie als Bergloks im Rangierbahnhof mehr oder minder ständig eingebunden sind. Somit war es eine kleine Sensation, dass 296 023 den über zwei Stunden verspäteten EZK 53708 von Seelze Rbf West nach Mesmerode bespannte; Selbst eine Lok der Baureihe 294 hätte eine Besonderheit dargestellt! Während die Sonne zur Planzeit und auch lange danach ungestört von einem wolkenlosen Himmel schien, bildeten sich 20 Minuten vor Durchfahrt der Übergabe mächtige Wolkenteppiche, welche ein fast aussichtsloses Wolkenlotto zur Folge hatten. In einer kleinen Wolkenlücke befuhr die Fuhre nahe Bokeloh die ehemalige Steinhudermeerbahn. Zwei Kameras klickten und das dreistündige Warten in der Kälte war endlich beendet!

This one is a bit of processing magic. I finally found a new program that can create what I see in my mind when I look at a photo. I loved this scene, but the colors weren't as vibrant as I wanted them to be, nor was the sky interesting enough. After about an hour, voila. The fort in St. Augustine has a more lovely backdrop of clouds, and more vibrant tones in the water and sand, which makes this photo really pop. I enjoyed working on this one!
I won't be on here much this week. Thursday starts extended hours at my store for the Labor Day sale, and hopefully I will be very busy. We're also about to be hit by what should be a tropical storm in another day, packing winds of up to 65 mph and soaking rains. Worse case scenario, no work Thursday! Might have no power, AC or internet, either! Please pray for us down here in Florida, especially those on the west coast, where they are expected to get up to 15" of rain! Welcome to sunny Florida!
