Estambul no es una ciudad a la que se llega sin más. Es un puente entre dos mundos. Y la manera en que uno se aproxima a ella marca el devenir del resto del viaje.
Su ubicación privilegiada permite llegar de muchas maneras: por aire, por agua o por tierra.
En un pasado —ya por desgracia solo en el recuerdo (lo de “desgracia” es una ironía, porque aunque existiese, no podría pagar el billete ni con el sueldo de tres vidas)—, la forma más romántica de llegar era en tren, un homenaje a los días de los grandes viajes. Durante más de un siglo, desde 1883 hasta 2009, el mítico Orient Express unió París con Estambul, llevando a bordo millonarios, diplomáticos, espías, escritores y soñadores. Hoy, aunque ya no circule como antaño, desde París, Viena o Bucarest, las antiguas vías del legendario ferrocarril aún conservan su hechizo.
Pero sin duda, la forma más hermosa es llegar en barco. Es pura belleza. Desde el mar de Mármara, cuando el sol empieza a caer sobre el Cuerno de Oro, la ciudad aparece como una visión suspendida entre el agua y el cielo. Las cúpulas y minaretes de Santa Sofía y la Mezquita Azul se recortan en la luz dorada del atardecer, como si la ciudad no se dejara ver del todo hasta ese instante exacto. ¿Acaso no fueron concebidas estas joyas arquitectónicas como anuncio para los navegantes, señal en el horizonte de que estaban a punto de llegar a Estambul?

Its privileged location allows for many ways in: by air, by water, or by land.
In the past —now, sadly, only in memory (and "sadly" is ironic, because even if it still existed, I couldn't afford a ticket even with the salary of three lifetimes)— the most romantic way to arrive was by train, a tribute to the age of grand travel. For over a century, from 1883 to 2009, the legendary Orient Express linked Paris to Istanbul, carrying millionaires, diplomats, spies, writers, and dreamers. Today, though it no longer runs as it once did, the old tracks from Paris, Vienna, or Bucharest still hold a certain enchantment.
But without a doubt, the most beautiful way to arrive is by boat. Pure beauty. From the Sea of Marmara, as the sun begins to fall over the Golden Horn, the city appears like a vision suspended between water and sky. The domes and minarets of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque are etched into the golden light of dusk, as if the city chose not to reveal itself entirely until that precise moment. Were these architectural marvels not built, perhaps, as a message to approaching sailors — a shimmering sign on the horizon that they were about to arrive in Istanbul?

Más de sesenta años después de su construcción, la casa del Millonario, en Almassora, se cae a pedazos. La que fuera una de las residencias más ostentosas de la zona, fue construida por Juan Bautista Porcar -conocido como el Millonari- tenía un jardín de grandes dimensiones junto al cauce del río Mijares, entre Almassora y Vila-real. En los sesenta, la casa fue abandonada tras la marcha de sus propietarios a América y nadie se hizo cargo de ella.
