The Millenium Bridge which crosses the River Tyne between Baltic Square in Gateshead and the Malmaison Hotel in Newcastle

Millennium Tower, located in Vienna, is the second tallest building in Austria at 202 metres (663 feet) after the Donauturm. It was designed by the architects Gustav Peichl, Boris Podrecca and Rudolf Weber. The tower has 50 floors, serves both commercial and residential purposes, and is the focal point of a complex known as "Millennium City". It was completed in 1999 for the coming of the third millennium.

Millenium Place is a new addition to Coventry's city centre. The square also houses the Covenrty Transport Museum. The two arches are in honour of Frank Whittle from Coventry who patented the design of the jet engine in 1930. They signify vapour trails from jet engines.

In Chicago's Millenium Park, children play in the Crown Fountain that borders famed Michigan Avenue. The fountain was designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa who has this to say about fountains, "For me, a fountain doesn't mean a big jet of water. It means humidity, the origin of life."

Millenium Bridge, London

The Millenium Bridge over the Thames in London, seen from southbank. This gorgeous bridge was destroyed in the beginning of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I cried out 'nooo', eventhough it was just a film.

A few pinhole snaps from my recent trip to London. I wanted to travel light but there was space in the rucksack for the pinhole (just!) so I took it along with me for a laugh. I drew the line at a tripod though, so used a gorillapod.... I knew it would kind of restrict where I could set up, but I hadn't banked on just how wobbly the big wooden box would be when mounted on it!

Factor in the fact that the Millenium bridge is a bit wobbly itself and it gets a bit tricky getting the shot you want....

Still, I think this came out quite nice really! St Pauls in the background and a few people wanding towards the camera (they had a good nosey on the way past too).

The current (and derelict) Millenium Mills building dates back to 1934, built for Spillers Ltd, replacing the original mill constructed in 1905 for William Vernon & Sons millers (the mill was named after a blend of flour that won the 1899 'The Miller Challenge Cup'). The mill, and two neighbours, were sited on the dock to allow grain imported from oversea to be ground into flour as soon as possible. The mills were badly damaged in the Second World War, reopening in 1953 and continuing until the 1980s, the end brought about following the closure of the Royal Victoria Dock.

The Victoria Dock opened in 1855 (the 'Royal' was granted in 1880). This was the first dock designed to accommodate steam ships, the first with rail links to the national rail network and the first to use hydraulic machinery.

By 1860, the shipping was estimated to total 850,000 tonnes, larger than any of the other London ports. Although badly damaged throughout the Second World War, the Royal Victoria Docks were restored and returned to its former strength. The decline came in the 1960s with containerisation and larger ships shifting traffic to Tilbury. The docks closed in 1980.
