So many cold grey days so here's something to brighten up the day, it's an oldie Jojo in one of my favourite dresses a colourful Karen Millen creation.

One of the many items left behind at an old Mill / farm, way out in the Luxembourg countryside.

The first Jenkins County Courthouse was erected in 1908, and burned to the ground in 1910. This courthouse, the original building's replacement, was erected in the following two years. It was designed by Lewis F. Goodrich who employed Classical Revival and Renaissance Revival elements to replicate the previous 1908 edifice.

Like the vast majority of Georgia's historic county courthouses, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 as a multiple resources listing. It is also a contributing property to the Downtown Millen Historic District, listed in 1996.

Millen, Georgia is a small town located in the east of the state, between Augusta and Statesboro.

I like portraits where you feel the surrounding environment and context. I hadn’t attempted to make a stranger’s portrait in a full month. Our first serious snowfall of the year only came today, December 29th. I walked to Fleury Street, my neighborhood’s commercial street, to try and shoot winter scenes and perhaps, make some portraits.

After taking a first portrait, I passed by the 1185 Fleury Street east, I noted that a new restaurant called “Le Millen” will be opening this very evening. I had a look at the menu and thought it was promising.

There was a lone man behind the counter. I decided to walk in. He turned out to be the chef. His name is Jérémie. He told me that the opening date had been uncertain until a few days ago. We chatted a little. I didn’t want to be bothersome on such a special day but Jérémie felt he had things sufficiently under control to spare a few minutes for a quick portrait.

In the front section of the restaurant, the snowy sky provided an interesting soft and diffuse light. If Jérémie did look overall confident, he admitted he still felt quite stressed about this first evening. To add a little pressure, a number of chefs and staff members from other restaurants were expected among the diners for the opening night.

The restaurant’s name comes from the nearby Millen Avenue where a tramway line coming from downtown ran from 1893 until 1959. On its trail, over the first thirty years, the city limits of Montreal gradually expanded north from Sherbrooke Street until it reached, around 1915, the Rivière des Prairies on the other side of the Island.

One of a number of sunray skirts I was lucky enough to get from Kanen Millen, albeit via ebay.

In my experience, they make the best quality sunray pleated skirts.

Red Bull gives you wings

This photo was taken at the identical spot as the preceding photo. However, the camera used for this shot was the Pinhole Blender 120 (with all 3 pinholes used).

The comparison of these two shots might better help describe what the Pinhole Blender is capable of doing to a scene.

Also, as you can see in this photo, there is a long wooden fence not seen in the previous photo. Even though this fence was captured by the pinhole on the left hand side of the camera, it is now seen on the right hand side of the photo. Usual pinhole trickery.

Finally, I have no idea how the text from the film's paper backing bled through to the image (see left hand side of photo).

Anyone know?

Rhys Millen at the formula D finals on 10/13/07 at Irwindale Speedway in CA. I love tis wide angle shot. But the thing I worry about is others copying this angle and shot. I dont make money as a motorsports photographer. But I don't like to see people making money off of copying my ideas while I get nothing.

At the Long Beach event I started shooting extremely wide angle pans from over my head, with REALLY slow shutter speeds, next thing I know, I come back after lunch and I cant even get back to the spot because everybody is doing my shot!!!

Oh well, thats how it goes.

As a whole I feel the "drift" photographers are a very uncreative lot. REALLY, look at thier portfolios. They are all identical. Thats why I try new stuff. There are so many options. Even with the few shooting holes they alow us to use. (which makes it really challenging not to look like everyone else.

But there are 2 areas I used that no one else shot from!!!! I saw about 25 photographers in one hole, and nobody even touched 2 of the spots I hit!! WTF??oh, well.

I have some other things up my sleeve still and photos I havent posted from some of my "spots". I might just sit on them till I shoot for something larger than DRIFT411.COM.

On the argument side of things,...

If I start getting paid, my creativity will be at risk. Gotta make sure to get what the boss wants right?? Guess that will put me back in with the rest of them, just playing safe.

Glad I have a somewhat steady job outside of photography.

My Rants over,

thanks

How I did it.....

ISO 400

F 3.5

18mm

800FPS

And I panned with it. The trick is getting the car full frame without cutting some off. Or haveing it back 3 feet from you, cause it will be too small at this lens size.

Photoshop CS2...

Contrast up 15

brightness up 5

Saturation up 12

Curves down 15, then erased center to give a vinette

Curves down again over the whole photo, till it looked good.

Duplicate Layer, Gassien Blur 3.7, erased the blur from forground.

Canvas size, black, borders are 50 pixels bigger than picture

Water mark

Under 2 minutes. Its the same tweaks I do to my photos. I actually rarely cheat with the blur, but the shutter speeds just to high everyone was in focus. Every once in awhile I will play with the photofilters, but not this run.

Rod Millen - Pikes Peak Toyota Celica - Goodwood Festival of Speed 2008

Ah, it’s been 3 years, but my favorite project has finally met the light at the end of the tunnel! Early in my LEGO building career I attempted to build an 18-wide replica of Rod Millen’s record-breaking Pikes Peak Toyota Tacoma. I scrapped the original project due to lack of parts and now I’ve brought it back from the dead. Now that my skills are nearly twice as good as they used to be and my parts supply is much greater, the truck has been completed!

Now, about the truck: The Toyota Tacoma Pikes Peak was a custom built by Millen Works racing to compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the Unlimited class. It pushes nearly 800 Horsepower from a small engine and is equipped with turbocharger and nitrous injection. The Pike Peak Tacoma is a legend of the mountain and claim victories in 1998 and 1999.

Happy Palace fans are Pard drinkers

ALAN PARDEW swapped points for pints by nipping into a pub to celebrate Crystal Palace’s home win against Southampton. The Eagles boss and assistant Keith Millen nipped into the White Horse, a brisk stroll from Selhurst Park, after the 1-0 victory. Pardew applauded fans in the Holmesdale End after the game and upheld a promise to join the Holmesdale Fanatics for their tenth anniversary celebrations.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey makes a last minute save against Southampton. On the left is an item on Palace manager Alan Pardew going for a drink with the Holmesdale Fanatics after Palace’s 1-0 win against Southampton on 12 December 2015.

Al’s glad all over

ALAN PARDEW showed Palace’s faithful they are the best bar none. The Eagles boss and assistant Keith Millen made a surprise visit to the nearby White Horse pub afterwards to toast the diehard Holmesdale Fanatics, who are celebrating their formation 10 years ago. Co-chairman Steve Parish said: “Their efforts in sustaining the noise and colour are unrivalled.”

The Sun newspaper, Monday 14 December 2015.
