In honor of announcing my upcoming Street Photography Workshop in Havana, Cuba this Nov. 19-25, 2017, I will be sharing photos from Havana for the next two weeks. Only a 4 participant max for this week-long intensive workshop (2 spots left!). Full details on the blog ( shooterfiles.com/2017/09/announcing-november-workshop-in-... ). Click the link for more info and to reserve a spot now. Havana is still my favorite city for photography so I'm really looking forward to this one.

Another angle to the hazelnut burfi. An unplanned encounter when I was packing the camera away. I didn't think much of it, but now I'm liking the easygoing appearance of the image.

► █░▓ ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ FACING THE FACTORY from right across the other side on my walk along the left shore of the Boven Merwede river. This stretch of the northern shore which belongs to the province of South Holland is here taken by "Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods" (Nestlé) milk powder factory, with all those containers and the two freighter vessels ready for shipping. It processes 1,5 billion kilograms of milk annually. In the country where 1 litre of gasoline has the price of the 2 litres of milk, they still end the year with a sound profit. (Side note: just look at the package info of the most food products. There's milk powder now thrown in everywhere. I avoid it with passion).

Commendable and incredible result for a 'family company'! But, behind (or above) them is what in 2014 has become the world’s largest food and beverage company - Nestlé. The Dutch agriculture production and dairy in particular compete successfully with the two largest EU economies (France and Germany) and, notably since 2020, with its own government. The smaller local competitors get crushed. Not the Swiss multi-national, though...

and start to make pudding... :D

today is the last day on July, dear

This week brought the news that Dutch shops consider to only sell milk powder over the counter and no longer from (supermarket) shelves. This is seen as the only way to guarantee supplies to regular customers. Ever since the Chinese milk powder scandal Chinese buyers travel the country to buy as much milk powder as they can, for shipment to China.

Meanwhile, this large dairy cooperation (known overseas as Frisian Flag or Susu Bendera) cheerfully targets this interesting market. It may be among the first things Chinese visitors see when arriving in the country.

Coffee + Whip Cream + Roasted Almond + Vanilla Powder + Cinnamon + Sundae Syrup(Hershey's) + Mint Leaf = Incredibly Tasty

I made it for my mom and for myself to. Mine was little bit different from this one, mine had frozen whip cream.

My Boy

He dreams

Of striking it rich and

Buying me a house to live in.

My Boy

He worries

About my health and

Saving to buy me new crutches.

My Boy

He wishes

To give more than love and

Love all the more because it is all he can give.

Meanwhile,

He wakes up early

Sells newspaper at the traffic stops

And dream of better days to be.

Gulab Jamun Recipe | Gulab Jamun With Milk Powder

Today’s post is about Gulab Jamun Recipe / Gulab Jamun with milk powder which is a very famous dessert known to everyone and doesn’t need any introduction. Until last year, I used to buy ready made mixes from stores to prepare jamuns and it is quiet expensive too. It was my long time wish to prepare it from scratch. I was not satisfied with my first trail, as I made some mistakes in proportion, but the second time, I made some changes and got it right. Usually gulab jamuns are prepared with khoya but this recipe calls for milk powder which is easily available everywhere.

Griot in Mali.

A griot is a storyteller and announes, sings, praises or speaks for others. In Mali they keep stories alive by remembering and articulating it for others. This is Mr Abbas Ndiaye, a well known griot in Bamako, who was willing to make some publicity for milk from Holland ...

regular readers may recall my recipe for no-bake gluten free energy bites which are a super tasty source of energy but aren't particularly packed with protein ( maybe about 3-4 grams of protein per 1 inch ball ).

what with all the running i've been doing, i'm always on the look-out for easy sources of protein so i was intrigued by a power ball recipe from bryan cranston while flipping through a hemispheres in-flight magazine. i've never seen breaking bad so i don't know if there are power balls on the show or what, but the recipe looked like it would have a lot more protein thanks to the addition of non-fat milk powder. sure enough when you run the numbers each ball has about 8 grams of protein which is almost the 10 grams you need to be able to claim to be an excellent source of protein. in the future i might look for ways to add 2 grams more of protein per ball, but this is a good start.

i modified the recipe and rolled each ball in bit of dry coconut flakes and cocoa powder because, well, why not. and you could use some other milk powder brand than organic valley non-fat dry milk but they probably won't turn out as good :-)

ingredients and instructions

1C organic valley non-fat dry milk powder

3/4 C parts peanut butter

1/4 C honey

1/2 C dry coconut flakes

3T sweetened cocoa powder

sprinkle dry milk into peanut butter and mix thoroughly. add honey.

shape into balls and put into freezer for 15 minutes.

roll in mixture of coconut flakes and cocoa powder.

makes about twelve, 1-inch balls. each has around 160 calories and 8 grams of protein.

It looks ilke some sort of galaxy core to me! With it's dust lanes and 'hot' saturated core. But can you guess what it is?

Answer; small fire beneath the pic, produced this when i sprinkled some milk powder over it. This image has no reason or goal, just an expiriment which i liked!

Also does anyone have suggestions on how to get past the 1/200 shutter limit with an external flash? Or isn't it possible without a pocket wizard or something like that?

My mom loves stuffing as much as I abhor it - which is to say, a LOT - so it's no surprise that this loaf that I adapted from KAF's Stuffing Bread recipe is a big hit with her! Made with fresh thyme from my garden, too!

there are more and more pharmacies in hong kong targeting "tourist" from mainland china, selling milk formula and diapers because the quality control is nothing at all in china so they don't trust products produced by their own brands. hence, there are 5 pharmacies within 5 min walk from my home. ridiculous. just go away.

Originally established as the Morrinsville Dairy Company in 1922, the dairy company retains its Scottish link through the prominent use of the name Lockerbie. After a series of mergers, the dairy factory is now operated by the Fonterra Dairy Co-operative. Processing 1.2 million litres of milk per day during the peak of the milk production season, the factory produces milk powders, cream and butter.

The hottest product among mainland Chinese on a trip to Hong Kong? Milk Powder. Even after the melamine scandals broke into international news, Chinese milk powder has continued to be tested as tainted.

[13] This is optional as some coeliacs also have milk allergies. If you can have it, it improves the loaf. Add 3 tablespoons (45ml) of whole milk powder.

Today's post is a special one, milk powder burfi recipe with step by step pics and a short you tube video. Though it does not comes under the HOLI Festival sweets, it is the easiest one to prepare for the last minute rush. It can also be called as milk fudge or instant burfi recipe, as it is made with very few ingredients and the whole process gets finished within 15 minutes. I didn't use cardamom powder also, as I want the flavour of milk powder to be dominating.

Lunch @ "Two Chefs Eating Place".

The SIGNATURE dish of the place - fried pork ribs (the meaty morsels) served coated with so-generous a heap of milk powder.

The combo may even appear revolting for a fleeting moment BUT the pork ribs prepared tender and moist despite being fried, enigmatically became even more melt-in-your-mouth moist and lip-smackingly rich with the addition of the milk powder - it is so hurtfully sinful that it is so good.

Defies all logic - Amazing stuff!
