Went back to Blackroot Pool in Sutton Park - overshot the mark and walked 2.6 miles in thick mud. Haven't quite recovered yet !

I'm sure all my friends here on Flickr will know about Mud. Not easy to walk in but I loved the autumn colours here.

And if you fancy a laugh, do listen. I know - showing my age here 😃 !

A Canadian goose has an average lifespan of 24 years.

A v-shaped skein of geese can fly 1,500 miles in a 24 hr day.

Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in southwest Florida is a very unique place, conserving several different biomes in one conserved area. This is the swamp, with the butressed trunks of relatively young Bald Cypress standing in the water.

Each year that my wife and I visit Corkscrew it seems that another of the 100-year old cypresses sadly is lost to the latest large hurricane.

I wasn't miles from nowhere but it sure felt like it. I took an alternate route home following the memorial service held for my colleague and his wife who lost their lives October 2nd in the accident on the 401.

(One of my favourite songs too)

Originally referred to as Grand Canyon, Fredrick Schwatka renamed it in July of 1883 Miles Canyon after General Nelson Miles. Schwatka wrote, “Through this narrow chute of corrugated rock the wild waters of the great river rush in a perfect mass of milk-like foam, with a reverberation that is audible for a considerable distance.” Although accounts differ as to the ferocity of the rapids, there is no question that they were very dangerous. During the Gold Rush, hundreds of boats loaded with precious supplies were lost (as well as several lives) before the Northwest Mounted Police arrived to regulate traffic.

Eventually a wooden rail system around the canyon eliminated the need to battle this hazard. The hydroelectric dam constructed to provide power to Whitehorse has tamed Miles Canyon, but drifting through its 15 metre high basaltic walls is still a thrill

guess I'll take my time....

#sundayfunday Wild & Free !!!

Being wild and free has been my lifestyle for more than 20 years. Sometimes too wild and too free. The last few years it has meant putting on the helmet, the leather jacket, the boots and riding the bike without any particular destination.

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep."

Råbjerg Mile is a migrating coastal dune between Skagen and Frederikshavn, Denmark. It is the largest moving dune in Northern Europe with an area of around 2 km² and a height of 40 m above sea level. It is also the only major stretch of migrating dunes in Denmark. The dune contains a total of 4 million m³ of sand. Wikipedia

Way back in the year of 1896. Skookum Jim, Tagish Charlie, and George Washington Carmack, found gold in the Klondike, a discovery that started the Klondike Gold Rush.

Throughout the world, adventurers and fortune-seekers travelled often by poorly constructed boats, or they walked, as they sought their fortunes in the far north.

Many would die EnRoute - and indeed, many would perish here at Miles Canyon because they knew nothing about boat building, navigation, or swimming.

Doc and I have visited the area on several occasions, and we marvel at the history, and the beauty that surrounds us. It is definitely a "must see" on your way north.

On a lovely sunny mid winters afternoon, we went fora drive to Gerroa to go for a walk on the beach.

A hidden Oasis off of the Mile End Road in Stepney, East London. Approached through an arch between shops this cul-de-sac has been used for filming.

About halfway along Celestine Lake Road outside of Jasper, Alberta is a spot that I visited 5 years ago when I was there, and I ventured back again this year. A lot has changed since my last visit, a wildfire scarred the area badly, leaving millions of charred trees in its wake. However, we were thrilled when we arrived and found the rolling grassy hills at this spot had been somehow spared from the destruction. Along the edge of Jasper Lake and the Athabasca River, westbound U761 rolls along with the Miette Range in the distance. The crew was a little surprised to see anyone out there, and warmly greeted our presence.

Monument Valley seen from the 13th milepost of Route 163 on the Utah side. Early morning light. I wanted to be in the valley for the sunrise, but the road in Navajo land is not open until 8:00, so I went back for sunset the next day (photos coming soon).

After travelling extensively to the remotest parts of India, it is my view that the phrase "Women Empowerment" is a utopia to the people like her as they belong to the low-income group of our society and cannot speak in English!!!

I almost never have my digital camera out when Miles is in my lap.. but this time, I did .. he likes to sleep in my lap for an hour or two at a time....which is pretty good when you consider that he's only 8 months old.

The area was first settled in 1865 by a Mormon group led by Peter Shirts. This early settlement was named Rockhouse, for Shirts's strongly built sandstone house. After the end of the Black Hawk War in 1867 settlers began to arrive at a rapid pace. Farming produced good crops for several years, but irrigation was very difficult; each spring the surface runoff water was absorbed into the desert soil too quickly to properly water the fields. In 1870 the residents agreed to move the settlement. They divided in two groups; half the people went about 5 miles (8.0 km) upstream and founded the town of Pahreah.
