fixed the hoist for the spare tire on my Envoy tonight.
I think welding is so cool. There's an unthinkable amount of ideas coming into my brain when I wield the hot steel. I'm quite sure you'll see more of my newly acquired skill.
Welding in progress - taken at a local engineering works. I like the dramatic looping sparks in the centre of this shot, captured by the relatively long exposure.
3g mig welding test. its upsided down since this was done uphill. A common mig welding test is 3/8" plate A36 carbon steel with a 37.5 degree bevel. open butt root, done downhill, fill is done uphill.

When i took this set of photos i looked at the craftsman as doing art and that is how i approached the photographic aspect. I did not look at it as work, which was ease for me because i am not the one doing it. I told this to them as i took the different photos. I looked at it from an artistic perspective.
I thought that the was an amazing photo. The bright star pattern that the welding makes and the highlight of the smoke are very nice. I love hos the gloved hand is softly illuminated showing the texture of the leather glove. I love the sparks shooting off in all directions as he makes his weld. I took this with the other work photos.
Shooting this set of photos was difficult as the lighting in the fabrication facility greatly varies from one location to another, from one worker to another. I feel that the a200 did a very good job in handling the variations in lighting.

I was out in the shop today doing some work and was able to get this photo. He is using a MIG rig to weld the plate steel together.

I really like this photograph. The light from the welding illuminates the craftsman's front. The smoke from the contact is really amazing. I love the interaction of his hands and the welding rig that is taking place, how he protects one of his hands with a glove and keeps one open to get a better feel.
