From mid-September.
I count six in this frame.
In the moment, I was overwhelmed with delight, fascination, wonder. I wasn't concentrating on my camera settings, hence the blurriness.
I was in the moment. That was indeed more than enough.
A once in my lifetime event. Hundreds of Monarch butterflies on the migration move. Spectacular.
Bird migration forecast maps show predicted nocturnal migration 3 hours after local sunset and are updated every 6 hours. Colorado State University and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology currently produce these forecasts.

Lots of birds in the air tonight, although migration will be interrupted by a large band of thunderstorms.

So its that time of the year when birds start flying south to warmer climes, I kinda wish I could go with them.
It snowed today, not that much, like a light dusting, but it still snowed. I have to face the fact that winter is almost here and its just gonna get colder from here on. I don't usually mind the cold but this morning was just unbearably cold (or it could be just because I was just wearing a sweater lol).
This shot was somewhat of an accident.... I had my camera on my leg and accidentally pressed the shutter and this was what came up... lol.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE - The Tourism and Migration E-Conference is Planeta's 18th formal e-conference. The format will differ from previous events in that dialogue will run over six months.
January/February - Dialogue among co-sponsors and those who register early.
March/April - Additional participants will be allowed entry in March and April.
May/June - Participants will conclude the dialogue by preparing recommendations and announcing individual and collaborative projects.
REGISTRATION - Registration is open.
BACKGROUND - Tourism enterprises are increasingly considered as as providing an alternative to migration and a vehicle to alleviate poverty in developing economies by creating jobs. Likewise, tourists are staying longer in places -- blurring the distinction between tourism and migration. The Tourism and Migration E-Conference will address these issues and allow participants time to prepare recommendations and announce individual and collaborative endeavors.
REQUIREMENTS - Active participants are asked to have a professional interest in tourism or migration. You don't have to be an expert in both topics. Active participants will be required to post an introduction and to post at least two messages per month. An account on the Planeta Forum is necessary for active participation, though the posts can be read by all.

This was taken from our camp in the Ikorongo.A constant stream of Wilderbeest and Zebra walked past out camp for a whole day.....probably over 150 000 to 200 000 in total.

Winged Migration is an interactive video installation, created by theatre maker Judith Hofland and filmmaker Tessel Schmidt. It is a work that has to be experienced. In the Wertheimpark there’s a larger than life-size birdbox that looks out on an old tree. As soon as you enter the little house, a bird starts to fly.The more people come in, the more birds start to fly around freely. To people freedom is not always as self-evident as it is to birds. In the theatre Judith and Tessel often use video, trying to confront the audience interactively with the current situation in Europe. In this work, as in many others they created, the artists combine reality and fiction. In this case they use video mapping on an existing, old tree, and add the projection of birds. Visitors of the birdbox are invited to ask a stranger inside with them in order te let more birds fly and make the tree glow – which constitutes the interactivity of Winged Migration.
This map displays the North American monarch butterfly range. There are two monarch butterfly populations in North America - eastern (east of the Rocky Mountains) and western (west of the Rocky Mountains). The eastern population overwinters in central Mexico and breeds throughout the United States and southern Canada. The western population overwinters along the California coast and breeds across the western states and southern Canada.

During what is almost certainly the world's greatest wildlife spectacle thousands of wildebeest hurl themselves down a cliff-face into the Mara River. (In the 40 minutes that this frantic crossing took only 6 animals died).

Recent wanderings thru the forested areas of Sholayar, came across with this group of butterflies - Glassy Blue Tiger, Dark Blue Tiger n Common Crows, gathered in few hundreds, offer a feast for the fotographers' gadgets!!
Recent research unveled that the earlier theory of butterflies using their brain for selecting the exact migration route was wrong and instead they used their antennae!! The antennae located on their head act something similiar to GPS(Global Positioning System) which helps in locating exact routes of migration
wildebeest working themselves into a frenzy and jumping down a cliff before crossing the mara river on their migration south across the serengeti
Skimming the wave tops, red breasted mergansers are moving south along the shoreline in large numbers. This usually lasts a week or so and is a great opportunity to photograph a species I only see at the beginning of winter and again in spring.
They fly at such high speeds they look like darts zipping by!
25 year old Najma Begum hails from Demra in Bangladesh.
Her Past: Goes to Abu Dhabi as domestic help, oblivious about her being recruited as a home-based commercial sex worker. Forced into prostitution, sexually exploited and brutally assaulted for one year. Somehow escapes confinement and returns to Bangladesh, penniless.
Her present: Starts life afresh with vigour and self-confidence, working in a garments factory.

Eventually a choice is made and as soon as one wildebeest enters the water they all go together in a thunderous stampede like a courageous protest of the wild — they can’t kill us all.
