Pendant que Abo se morfondait pour photographier des oies qui étaient beaucoup trop loin pour la puissance de son zoom..
J'ai décidé de photographier ce display en cachette pour lui montrer en rentrant à la maison. LOLL
Ce jour là, il y devait y avoir 35,000 oies à Cap-Tourmente.
Je suis la seule des deux à avoir pu en photographier!!!

These were a miniscule part of the massive migration that happens twice each year as the millions of Snow Geese, Tundra Swans and Canada Geese make their way to and from Canada.
Fall migration
The Canada Geese at Andrew Haydon Park were very active this weekend. Large groups were continuously flying in and out of the park’s ponds and once there, gathering on large flocks whereupon lots of seated wing flapping and noise making occurred. There was a restlessness in their behaviour, and to even the most casual observer, it was clear that something had energized the group.
For Canada Geese, “peak fall migration occurs in September and October. During this period, Canada Geese relocate to a broad range of habitats from low Arctic tundra to prairies, lakes, meadows, golf courses and city parks. If open water and food are available, many geese will remain over winter on northern territories. Some populations that do migrate are not going as far south in the winter as they used to. This northward range shift has been attributed to changes in farm practices that make waste grain more available in fall and winter, as well as changes in hunting pressure and changes in weather.”

Bird migration forecast maps show predicted nocturnal migration 3 hours after local sunset and are updated every 6 hours. Colorado State University and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology currently produce these forecasts.
In honor of the king of butterflies. Watchers tell us that the winter migration of the monarch to Mexico is over - those that are going to make it or were headed there (many do stay in warm southern states), have arrived. Soon the winter count will begin and we will know just how much of a miracle this amazing journey is for this year.

Best viewed large. All rights reserved. I was out on the property this morning and wondered why the bees were sounding off as if they were swarming...indeed they were! About 50 feet away from me there were these honey bees swarming to protect their new queen on a pine tree limb about 15 feet above ground level. The swarm on the left converged to the swarm on the right. They are no longer in that spot...hopefully they found some good cover to build a permanent nest not too far away!
A gray whale and her calf glide silently through the kelp forests of Big Sur on their way to feeding grounds in Alaska. Big Sur's coastline is part of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary for very good reason!
Tiny Planet 1. Created a "tiny planet" image using a new app called Circular. Very interesting new toy! Instead of the usual circular "planet" in the center, it made a sort of "snail shell" shape. Happened because the horizon was a bit crooked in the original image. I like how it turned out, though.

In Rome, some people open their umbrellas even when it doesn't rain... Especially in November, when swarms of starlings migrating south linger in the city... Who knows why...

Large flocks of shorebirds are starting to congregate along the shores of the Great Salt Lake. This saltwater lake is a major migratory stopover for millions of birds and is in danger of drying up due to water overuse and climate change. In 2021 it reached its lowest level in recorded history.

Ce sont effectivement des oies égyptiennes; elles se sont installées en Belgique et sont devenues sédentaires.

These are indeed Egyptian geese; they settled in Belgium and became sedentary.

Another subject that is very represented in Tanzanian wood carvings is the great seasonal migration of wildebeests.
The work follows the structure of the original tree and is about two meters long.

Mendoza Ranch, Outer Point Reyes
Woke up grumpy and sore on Saturday, but this bubo completely lifted my spirits, like a fog lifting out of my brain.
If you have not read elsewhere, migration is so ON at Point Reyes and Bodega Bay - migrants and vagrants galore. Very fun times. These last two days were filled with birds and some really really nice birders too. (you know who you are!!)
In the Masai Mara, the wildebeest and zebras migrate from the Serengeti to the Mara in Kenya following the rains. Over 2 million animals take the trek. If you've ever seen the National Geographic specials of them crossing the river with hungry crocodiles in wait, then you've seen footage of this amazing park.

Nothing had prepared us for the drama of Kenya's great migration. We saw thousands of wildebeest literally throw themselves off a cliff into the Mara River. As far as we could see only 5 died (and, incredibly, the one in the photo was among the lucky ones).

William Styles Ingles was born in the Midwest in December of 1841. He arrived in Oregon during the Great Migration of 1845 at the age of 5 years.
He was the son of DeWitt Clinton Ingles, who operated the first blacksmith shop in Portland before his death in 1859.
Ingles married Mary Elizabeth Marsh at the home of John Marsh in September 1870. They had four children by 1900. At the time of his marriage, Ingles also was a clerk in the Centerville Store which was owned by W.D. Hoxter, with whom he boarded prior to his marriage.
The 1889-90 business directory and census records list Ingles as the proprietor of a billiard hall. He reportedly bought land for 2030 Main Street in 1889 and opened the billiard parlor shortly thereafter.
A few years later, probably around 1900, Ingles erected four brick buildings on Main Street with J.V. Pope and William Porter. Ingles was the nephew of William Porter's wife.
A fire district created in1892 required that all downtown buildings be made of brick. One of these buildings was the Ingles and Porter building at 2036 Main.
The name Ingles was discovered under the cornice during remodeling.
William Styles Ingles died on December 5, 1900 and was buried in the Buxton cemetery. (Forest GroveNews-Times, l3 December 1900; Hillsboro Argus,6 December 1900

Jerome Porter
Jerome Porter was born in Orlean City, New York on March 6, 1833 and was of Scottish ancestry.
He was the second child of Charles and Caroline Wood Porter.
In 1852, Porter came west to the California gold fields and began a stage line between the gold fields and San Francisco. He operated the stage for six years until coming to Oregon in 1862.
He purchased a farm of 330 acres in Forest Grove which he increased to about 440 acres in ensuing years. Shortly before marrying, Porter purchased Henry Buxtou, Sr.'s Donation Land Claim just west of Forest Grove .
He operated a farm there, in addition to selling real estate and raising livestock.
In 1862, Porter married Ellen V/ooley Raffety, widow of Joseph C. Raffety. In 1872-'73 the Porters moved into town and enrolled their three children, Nellie, Avery and Cary, in the Tualatin Academy.
Mr. Porter proved to be a restless soul, making several ventures to Alaska in search of gold in 1876 and heading east in the1880s.
By 1892 Mr. Porter had returned to Forest Grove and with his wife's nephew, William Styles Ingles, built the Ingles and Porter building at 2036 Main Street. Mr. Porter passed away in 1896 and was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Forest Grove.
