My first and only flight aboard Midway Airlines came on Nov. 2, 1982, when I flew from Kansas City International Airport to Chicago Midway Airport. Another Midway DC-9 is shown on the ground in Chicago. (Scanned from a slide)
The Midway Theater in downtown Rockford has been abandoned since 2006. It has had attempts to reopen but in 2012 part of the roof collapsed. It's a beautiful theater and hopefully it can be restored like the Ramova Theater

The USS Midway Museum is a historical naval aircraft carrier museum located in downtown San Diego, California at Navy Pier. The museum consists of the aircraft carrier Midway. The ship houses an extensive collection of aircraft, many of which were built in Southern California.
Midway Geyser Basin contains a small collection of mammoth-sized springs. Midway is part of the Lower Geyser Basin, but because of its isolated location between the main features of Lower and Upper geyser basins it became known as Midway. Rudyard Kipling, who visited Yellowstone in 1889, immortalized this basin by referring to it as "Hell's Half Acre." Even today it is still remembered by that name. Despite its small size Midway possesses two of the largest hot springs in the world. Grand Prismatic Spring, nearly 370 feet in diameter, sits upon a large mound surrounded by small step-like terraces. The other feature, Excelsior Geyser, erupted nearly 300 feet high before the 1900s. It is now a dormant geyser and is considered a hot spring, discharging more than 4050 gallons of boiling water per minute. Other colorful springs include Turquoise and Indigo springs, known for their pale and dark blue colors.

Pictured in failing evening light, this rather scabby old ex-Crosville National had seen better days.

This is similar to a photo that I uploaded earlier, but the lights on the right are exposed better in this shot. Taken at the Champlain Valley Fair in Essex Junction, Vermont with my 50mm f1.4. Please view large. Thanks to my friend Andy, who helped combine two shots of this to get this final version.
More frackin' computer problems!! I lost all of the RAW and edited versions of the last 3 months worth of photos due to a corrupted system on my MacBook. Basically had to re-format my hard drive and re-install OS X and all software from scratch for the 2nd time in the last month (hard drive died last month). Most of the shots on here from the last 3 months are only on Flickr. I do have unedited jpeg versions of most, but I did lose some for good. I'm not a very happy camper. I bought another external drive and will now use Time Machine each week so it isn't as disastrous if it happens again. I had been backing up everything onto an external drive, but it's been a busy summer and I neglected doing it. Live and learn I guess.

Seen in February 1981, operating in the Gulf of Oman with a typically-crowded flight-deck full of F-4 Phantoms, A-7 Corsairs, A-6 Intruders and an E-2 Hawkeye AEW aircraft is the USS Midway (CV-41).
USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) was an aircraft carrier of the US Navy, the lead ship of her class, and the first to be commissioned after the end of WWII. She was laid down 27 October 1943 by Newport News Shipbuilding Co., Newport News, VA. Her revolutionary hull design was based on what would have been the Montana-class battleships and gave her superior manoeuvrability over all previous carriers. She was powered by 12 boilers providing steam to four geared turbines, giving her a top speed of 33 kt.
On 17 August 1980, Midway relieved Constellation to begin another Indian Ocean deployment and to complement the Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN-69) task group still on contingency duty in the Arabian Sea. Midway spent a total of 118 days in the Indian Ocean during 1980/81. On 25 March 1986, the final carrier launching of a Fleet F-4S Phantom II took place off Midway during flight operations in the East China Sea.
Active in Operation Desert Storm, Midway was subsequently decommissioned at NAS North Island on 11 April 1992. She is now a museum ship in San Diego, CA., and is the only remaining aircraft carrier of the WWII era that is not an Essex-class ship.

An Amtrak ballast train passes the former Pennsylvania Railroad MIDWAY tower while entering the out of service 4 Track. This consist would be dropped here so it will be ready for action the following morning. At the time of this photo Amtrak was leasing six Norfolk Southern GP40-2s for a long-term NEC tie and rail replacement project. KN702 included 3031 on the east end, with 3030 and 3032 on the west end. The crew would return to Adams Yard light with NS 3030 after dropping this train east of the tower.
