I didn't have the heart to ask this student to take her feet off the shelf. I can deal with the "shoe spice" (dust and bits from the bottom of shoes) on the shelf if it means a child is engrossed in a book! :)

A quick-to-make display for our junior high students using photos of books with annotations paper-clipped to file folders and a couple of centrepiece signs made from dollar store foam bags, bandanas, and simple printed signs adhered to sticks.
I didn’t pull books for the display, but left them shelved for students to hunt down. Having books for students to grab from the display is great, but our students sometimes need to have a little less “instant gratification” and learn how to find books shelved by the author’s last name. It also helps them learn to browse the shelves and have their attention captured by books they may not notice otherwise.
I realized after the fact that the little bubbles under the big thought bubble look like caterpillars hanging down, but it’s supposed to be a short-lived display so I’m hopeful no one will notice! :)

Our provincal government has recently implemented a mandate that all students must learn a second language in school, and we’re currently offering French and Spanish in our curriculum.
With our tiny library budget, we’re just beginning to purchase novels books our students would enjoy in other languages. This is the humble beginning of our Spanish fiction collection, with a French collection to soon follow, and hopefully other languages in the near future.
One of the posters in our library that goes with our black, white and red display theme for September.
For our "Warm Books for Cold Days" display, I brought in lots of flannel plaid pillows and cozy blankets.
When I posted this photo, it was -35 degrees Celsius outside (-31 degrees Fahrenheit), so our students really have enjoyed coming into the library to warm up and read. I can hardly get them to go home after school!
Part of our summer reading display.
Who knew an old 1970's lawn chair, a beach towel, a child's umbrella and a bunch of pool toys and other summer stuff could make a great display so quickly?!

Theses student found an extra use for the fiction section shelves – a temporary computer desk! Our library was so full that these students didn’t have a place to work, so they set up their computers where they could find space.
I stuck the post for this sign holder through six Styrofoam balls for a frosty snowball-stacked look.
A busy library means that students have to be inventive and find a place to work. This student found a space in a fiction section bookshelf that fit his netbook perfectly. I think he’s started a trend, as his buddy soon joined him.
(Sorry for the bad cropping job, but it was done so in the interest of not showing a recognizable student face on the Internet where possible due to FOIP.)

Quick and very simple display centrepiece using a gift bag, four bandanas for colour, and a couple of printed signs (double-sided) to attract attention to recent library additions.
Super-quick book display idea: Make a "flag" banner, toss in a few winter icons, and add books!
Want to make your own banner? Banner flag "printables" are available! Search my photo stream for "flags" or "Winter Reads".

(This is the first part of a flag banner that reads "Winter Reads!" See my photostream for more related images).

Ninth grade student Ramzieh choose the books for our school library display and creatively placed them in and among all the summer props. She did such a great job!
All in good pun! This little green sign was added to our display a couple of hours after it went up. It made us laugh, so we kept it!

Centrepiece for mini display of recent book acquisitions for our black, white and red theme in September 2010.
Funny how something as simple as using felt markers to colour staples makes people smile!
I love the look of surprise and delight when students and teachers use my stapler at the school library desk and discover a wonderfully stripy little rainbow holding their pages together.
Small display of romantic ("smoochie") fiction and Valentine's books in February 2011.
Thank you to Flickr member paige_eliz for the "smoochies" idea.
Part of one of our library’s back to school displays (we were trying to diverge from the usual Autumn theme). I covered the top of a bank of short bookshelves with black, white and red fabric, and added the signage, and completed it with books in matching colours. Posters around the library tie in with the colour theme as well. Thanks to cambridgelibraries for the inspiration!

Hey #MHMSMd #MountainLions, have you heard about the controversy about these books being yanked from school libraries? Don’t worry we have both copies!!!!!!
