it is not Spring! The warm weather is coaxing blooms in mid-December from the iris bulbs.

Iris in my neighborhood blooming here in Tulsa in mid-December! We have not had a hard freeze yet and have had many Autumn days in the seventy degree range. Quite unseasonable!

The county of Pieria is an area rich in attractions of great historical and archaeological interest to the visitor.

These attractions range from the wealth of findings at the Neolithic Settlement in Makrigialos through the remains of Pydna to the ruins of the City of Dion and the Castle at Platamonas. Monasteries and Churches are to be found in abundance, bearing witness to the extensive history of our area.

Mount Olympus, Titaros and the mountain range of Pieria, the coastal wetlands and the sea complete the integrated ecosystem of Pieria. Both taken as a whole and in its individual parts, the land of Pieria can be seen to be one of great environmental and natural wealth, with a particularly wide variety of plants and animals.

The prefecture of Pieria offers an ecological and aesthetic variety of great worth, a characteristic element in satisfying the most demanding visitor.

The last vestiges of Autumn. Hard to believe it is mid-December when looking at this image of a small houseboat on Mill Creek, at the Naval Academy Sports Complex.

A tree casts a lovely shadow over a road in Friendly Shopping Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Tuesday, the 11th of December, 2018, after a winter storm dropped several inches of snow on the Piedmont Triad area the previous weekend.

A Mid December Sunrise, as seen from our house on December 11, 2006

Early morning on Passeig de Gràcia in mid-December, the street is quiet and bathed in a warm orange glow in the distance. The Christmas lights, though unlit at this hour, drape across the avenue, adding a festive touch to the scene. Even in the morning light, the decorations create a magical, holiday-like atmosphere that perfectly captures the charm of Barcelona during the festive season - Barcelona, Spain

When autumn meets winter...sounds like December in Greensboro, North Carolina, to me.

Beautiful decorations and Christmas trees are ready to be viewed at Willistead Manor - Walkerville Area - Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Several inches of fresh snow fell during the course of the day... and I spent time outside shoveling the driveway, building a snowman with 2 of my grandkids (very fun)... and of course, shooting some early (almost) winter.

I enjoy the 'hush' that new snow casts on the neighborhood... everything is more subdued and mellow. Nice. I know the neighbors are wondering why I'm shooting these old dead plants, but no one really bothers to ask. If they did... I'd tell them it's because there is unexpected beauty to be found everywhere... sometimes in the last place you'd expect it!

Like this. =) And I'm good with that.

My 10th foster dog for 2009, a dainty, sweet little terrier mix with the most luscious fur (once she got over her kennel-stress) has found a home for Christmas! She was adopted by a dear friend of mine who was looking to add a small dog to her menagerie. This little girl doesn't have her new name yet--her new person likes to wait until a name suggests itself. For more great dogs, visit the Montgomery County Texas Animal Shelter at fmctas.org.

I thought the amazing flowers hanging from the ceiling were artificial at first, because they look like they are hooked on to the trellis like a decoration. The waitress called it "Jade" flower, but I would love to know the proper name for it, and more about its origin. The beautifully shaped, slipper-like single blossoms were constantly and audibly popping off and landing on our table, or our heads. Maybe it was the time of day. I presume this is a way the plant propagates itself.

I took several photos of this remarkable vine flower while I was supposed to be freewriting....and as a result I never got to the ending of my story. I guess photography is for the moment, still more important than writing!

This on the Constitucion extension on the side of Catedral Santo Domingo, a major repair to the sewer lines and the uneven (and beautiful -- I will miss it!) cobblestone street that is for pedestrians only. They are replacing the old with new, smooth stones which are beautiful....and new looking. They will no doubt be easier to walk on.

Street and sewer repair is going on in a major way all over Oaxaca. The cynical among us believe it is a ploy for re-election by the very unpopular and divisive mayor. The even more cynical believe it is a way of making many major streets impassable for upcoming demonstrations.

Oaxaca is Demonstration City, however, and the people will always find a way around whatever obstacles the government erects.

It has to be said that it is a good thing that all these public works programs are in progress -- the sewers have been a major problem in the city, and it looks like lots of men are being employed...even if they are friends of friends of the governor.

Snowflake dishcloth - Knitting Pattern

The pattern said to p2otg on row 27, but then I ended up with a row of purls, in the center, that looked like they didn't belong there. In the picture on the Berocco site, the snowflake model, doesn't have purls in the middle, so I unseamed it, ripped back two rows and fixed it with k1, k2tog across row, k1. I think it looks a lot better.

My backyard the morning after another 5-6" (13-15 cm) snowfall. We haven't had a big storm since mid-December, but every ten days (or so) we get one like this. (In fact, we're expecting another 5 inches tonight.)

The first frost of winter 2015.

The frost on those low bushes was lovely to look at, as long as you were indoors at the time ;)
