discovered this abandoned Indian trading post along historic route 66 while driving through Arizona.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area but spend a lot of time in a second home in the Palm Springs area in California where there are a lot of structures that were built during the Mid-Century era of American design and architecture. There are a lot of homes that preserve the aesthetic but this neon-lit car wash sign on Highway 111 always remind me of the style whenever I pass by it.

This space in the original house was a pantry -- with the door on the tiled wall -- and about 20'' of the master bedroom foyer. A powder room was first built here during the 1992 remodel. As in the main bathroom, the big cabinet is a stock laminate item, while the light box, valance and medicine cabinet are custom maple.
Located in San Jose's tony Rosegarden neighborhood at 1390 Park Ave., this charming apartment building has "1960s" written all over it... From the concrete screen block framing the entrance to the square metal screens covering the exterior lighting, I've had a love affair with this building for years. If only they would clean up the landscaping a bit.
Original bldg permit dates to 1961. Architect unknown.
