Microsoft's hard-edged booth at SC07 did nothing to quiet critics. However, there were some relatively positive comments from HPCwire Editor Michael Feldman:
"Microsoft released a beta version of Windows HPC Server 2008, the successor to Microsoft Compute Cluster Server 2003. Better name, more capabilities. New features include support for new high-speed networking, scalable cluster management tools, advanced failover capabilities, a service-oriented architecture (SOA) job scheduler, and support for partners' clustered file systems. The SOA capability is an
interesting avenue. As I understand it, Microsoft is looking to bypass MPI and use Web service routing as a way to support high-throughput SOA applications. You can download the HPC Server beta at www.microsoft.com/hpc. The company is planning to launch the product sometime in the second half of 2008."

I went to Seattle recently to organize WinMoDevCamp, a non-for-profit event to develop applications for the upcoming release of the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 O/S. Over 70 developers, winmo enthusiasts, and press attended the event. WinMoDevCamps are currently being planned in 6 cities around the world. A big thanks to all the awesome folks at Valve who took time out of their day to show us their studio and answer our questions! We all learned a lot, had a blast, and got to see a lot of stuff very few people get the chance to see.
