This is Microchip's MPLAB-X (currently in Beta.) This is used for PIC Microcontrollers, including 8-bit PIC16/18, 16-bit PIC24/30/33, and 32bit PIC32. I believe MPLAB-X is based on "NetBeans", and runs natively on Mac OSX and linux as well as windows.
The MPLAB® ICD 3 with Explorer 16 Kit is a complete set of tools for application development using Microchip® PIC24F, PIC24H, and dsPIC33 16-bit MCUs. It also includes a 9V universal power supply for the Explorer 16 Development Board, a PIC24FJ128GA010 and a dsPIC33F256GP710 device (mounted on plug-in modules for quick replacement).
Also included with the kit is Microchip’s MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE), MPLAB C Compiler for 16-bit devices Lite Edition, tutorials and user manuals on CDROM. The complete kit introduces the developer to Microchip's family of 16-bit microcontrollers with all the tools for writing code in C, hardware debugging the application, and programming devices.

The green LEDs aren't very bright off the 4.5V (4xAA) battery pack, and with the resistors I'm using in there, but it's a decent proof-of-concept.
A mobile, bespoke work academy has led to full time employment at Stein’s Fish and Chips for one young man who was previously focussed on jobs in IT.
Jack Adams, 22, had recently become a client of the Bodmin Jobcentre Plus when he was referred to a Sector Based Work Academy due to take place at the Victory Hall, in Padstow. Run by NfET (Newquay for Excellence Training) the academies cater for many businesses in Cornwall and all attendees are guaranteed an interview after completing the programme.
The academy was supported by Skills Support for the Unemployed (SSU) which receives ESF Convergence co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency. Led by The Learning Partnership for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Ltd SSU has a variety of partners delivering training including NfET.

The MPLAB PICkit 3 allows debugging and programming of PIC and dsPIC Flash microcontrollers at a most affordable price point using the powerful graphical user interface of the MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The MPLAB PICkit 3 is connected to the design engineer's PC using a full speed USB interface and can be connected to the target via an Microchip debug (RJ-11) connector (compatible with MPLAB ICD 2, MPLAB ICD 3 and MPLAB REAL ICE). The connector uses two device I/O pins and the reset line to implement in-circuit debugging and In-Circuit Serial Programming.

I just came back today... from having him dug up so I could take him to the vets for a private cremation :(
I last saw him Friday night (08.08.08) and started a frantic search for him Sunday with door knocking, leaflets and posters all over the area. On my way home Tuesday I called into Vauxhall Barracks (all barbed wire military area) on the off-chance. The lady was distraught and told me she'd seen Harri dead in the park on Saturday morning. We searched all around the park (even in the dog-poo bins :-s) but couldn't find him.
Finally today (Thursday) I got hold of the people that look after the park (Didcot town council) who told me they'd buried a cat Saturday (and rang some lady with a grey cat to tell her!). They said he had no name on his collar so they'd buried him. I explained that Harri was micro-chipped for ID, cats often lose their collars and this was supposed to ensure I found him. She called me from the cemetery where I then ID'd him.
It was definitely my Harri :'( I held him, stroked his ear, and took him to the vets who confirmed for me that he'd been killed in an RTA and I've now paid for him to be cremated privately and returned to me in a little box. I wanted to bring him home and just cuddle him but the smell... so, I've got his collar and in a fortnight I'll sort of have him back home.
The vets told me to complain to the council for not checking him for a microchip and they are complaining too, it's not the first time.
At last I know where he is and feel more at peace despite the pain of losing him.

To give an idea of the scale, each one of those tiny pads with the gold wires hooked to them is about 0.2mm wide, and the wires themselves make a human hair look like a log.

Actually, I got my microchip removed. Luckily I was about 6cm from all sorts of fun complications. Worse case, the lines were drawn for bigger cuts, assuming they had to play with the facial nerve. If they funked something up there I could have half my face looking like "Droopy Dog" or lost of sensation in my face.

Me after completing my first ever 5K race, Crystal City's Friday 5K. Every Friday this month they are staging a 5K race on the streets of the Crystal City section of Arlington, Virginia. I signed up to do the Dogish Dash 5K with friends in September and thought the Friday 5Ks would be a good primer for that.
It wasn't as tough as I'd expected. 5 kilometers are approximately 3 miles, and I was able to run the first 2 miles non-stop. Then I walked a half-mile and ran the last half-mile. I don't know what my time was because they haven't posted the results on the internet yet, but I know I didn't finish last. Given that the last time I'd done any running was when I was in the Navy 16 years ago I was pretty satisfied with the outcome tonight. Now we'll see how sore I am tomorrow.
