Stop what you are doing and read this!

Do you know who Jack Kilby is?

You should, but most people do not. Jack Kilby worked at Texas Instruments here in Dallas, Texas and his invention has changed our lives more than any other invention in our lifetime, yet we do not recognize his name.

You see... Jack Kilby was the inventor of the microchip back in 1958 and received the Nobel Prize for his invention. In his obituary, it said he seldom used e-mail and imagine my thrill to stumble upon his estate sale after his death to find his old Royal typewriter, and I knew I had to have it!

To see a fascinating video about Jack:

Last week our house got struck by lightning - my wife even saw the bolt hit our house (we were in the porch watching the storm)! It took out our ADSL router and also the ethernet port of my PC and stopped my memory running at 1600Mhz (now stuck at 1066Mhz). This is the inside of the router.

This is an easy to use Universal Programming Module for MPLAB ICD 2.

Microchip Technology's MCP1640 Synchronous Boost Regulator features an operating voltage down to 0.35V, quiescent current as low as 19 microamperes, and shutdown current of less than one microampere. With integrated dual FET transistors and output currents up to 350 milliamperes, the 500 kHz MCP1640 regulator enables compact, longer-lasting battery applications in the consumer electronics market (e.g. electric razors, toothbrushes, GPS devices and portable music players), among others.

The chipKIT™ WF32 is a prototyping platform that adds the performance of the Microchip® PIC32 microcontroller. The WF32 is the first board from Digilent to have a WiFi MRF24 and SD card on the board both with dedicated signals. The WF32 board takes advantage of the powerful PIC32MX695F512L microcontroller, which features a 32-bit MIPS processor core running at 80 MHz, 512K of flash program memory, and 128K of SRAM data memory. The WF32 can be programmed using the Multi-Platform Integrated Development Environment (MPIDE). It contains everything needed to start developing embedded applications. The WF32 features a USB serial port interface for connection to the MPIDE and can be powered via USB or by an external power supply. In addition, the WF32 is fully compatible with the advanced Microchip MPLAB® IDE and works with all MPLAB compatible in-system programmer/debuggers, such as the Microchip PICkit™3 or the Digilent chipKIT PGM.

The DM164120-2 is a small demo board with a PIC16F device on board and a small surface mount prototype area. Use it with a PICkit 2 to program your code via a 6-pin ICSP header on the board. This kit also includes two bare PCB boards for those interested in customizing their development. This 44-Pin Demo Board also comes bundled with the PICkit 2 if you order the DV164121, the PICkit 2 Debug Express.
