Microchip Technology Inc. today expanded its Serial Quad I/O™ (SQI™) Flash memory family, with the new SST26VF032 3V, 32-Mbit SQI Flash memory device. Building on the success of the innovative SST26 Series family of products, this new 4-bit, multiplexed I/O serial interface Flash memory device features an enhanced serial-interface architecture that allows for low-power, high-performance operation and flexible data/code-protection schemes. With an 80 MHz operating frequency and a specialized instruction set, the SST26VF032 targets execute-in-place (XIP) applications, allowing programs to be stored and executed directly from the Flash memory, which increases overall system performance without the need for code shadowing on a RAM device. The SST26VF032 is offered in a compact, 6 mm x 5 mm, 8-pin WSON package and an 8-pin SOIC package, which reduces board space and lowers system costs. This device is ideal for a wide variety of applications, such as mobile handsets, DVD and Blu-ray™ players, printers, digital TVs, network appliances, GPS devices, DSL and cable modems, smart meters and more.

Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller, analog and Flash-IP solutions, today announced its first instrumentation amplifier, the MCP6N11. The new instrumentation amp features Microchip’s unique mCal technology, which is an on-chip calibration circuit that enables low initial offset voltage and a means to control offset drift, which results in higher accuracy across time and temperature. The MCP6N11’s low-power CMOS process technology enables low power, while providing a gain bandwidth product of 500 kHz, and it features a hardware shutdown pin for even more power savings. The device’s low, 1.8V operation allows two 1.5V batteries to be drained beyond typical use, and its rail-to-rail input and output operation enables full-range use, even in low-supply conditions.

Microchip's HID-class MCP2210 USB to SPI protocol converter is the simplest, smallest-footprint and most cost-effective option for adding USB-Certified connectivity to SPI-based systems. Microchip also provides free downloads of supporting software drivers, DLLs and a PC configuration tool, in addition to an evaluation board, to make it fast and simple for designers without USB expertise to add USB connectivity. The converter comes in small, 20-pin SSOP and 5x5 mm QFN packages, for space-constrained applications. Additionally, the MCP2210 has nine flexible, general-purpose I/O that can be configured via a PC as standard digital I/O pins or in alternate configurations, providing additional system I/O that simplify designs and support a wide range of applications. For more info, visit: www.microchip.com/mcp2210

Microchip's Quarter Brick DC/DC Converter Reference Design is implemented using Microchip’s dsPIC33F ‘GS’ series of digital-power Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs), which provide fully digital control of the power-conversion and system-management functions. As demonstrated in this reference design, the dsPIC33F ‘GS’ DSCs allow designers to easily and cost effectively create products using advanced topologies, which lower switching losses and boost efficiencies as high as 95%. Complete documentation—including software, Gerber files, MATLAB® models, Webinars and application notes—can be downloaded for free today from Microchip’s Web site at www.microchip.com/SMPS.

Art work made from microchips and other elctronic parts as seen in South Koreas Expo pavillion

I also have and have heavily used a BASIC Stamp BS2p40, and with these same displays I easily made this face once before on the stamp. It's very easy there. I had to learn more for this, but so far, the performance is much better. I errored so many times in the making of this simple face.

example error:

bsf porta, 1 ;clock 4017 high

bcf porta, 0 ;clock 4017 low

In the stamp you throw pins high and low with 1 and 0, and I forgot I should be targeting a pin # here, and that bsf and bcf (bit set and clear) were doing the high/low for me. When I realized, I changed both to 0, and the 4017 clocking finally worked.

I made many more dumb mistakes like that, costing me several hours of debugging, but it's all part of the learning.
