Honeybees are being infected with parasitical maggots that are laying eggs inside the bees. These ZomBees were first discovered at SF State’s Hensill Hall in the northern corner of the campus by entomologist and Biology professor John Hafernik and his research team.
Graduate student Christopher Quock is conducting an experiment on the ZomBees and the process of bees being infected through a system of tagging them with tiny microchips that can be read by lasers mounted at the entrance of a manmade monitoring beehive.
The team has asked people nationwide to be aware of and begin collecting the slow-moving/immobile bees found on the ground or near lights or light-traps to be submitted for research.

Vinny has been on the streets of East New York for at least a couple of years. His caretaker noticed he had developed a big abscess on his face so we took him in to get it treated. We scanned and found a microchip dating back to an @aspca adoption from 2017. We're reaching out to the original adopters but if he's really been out on the street this long it's unlikely anyone is looking for him. His first name was "Goliath" but his caretaker had been calling him "Vinnie." We adjusted the spelling a little as a tribute to Vinny Spinola, one of the founders of @barcshelter, who passed away recently. We actually adopted our first Brooklyn cat from Vinny about a million years ago and his shelter provided recovery space for some of our first TNR projects! Vinny the cat will be getting that giant abscess drained and once he's healed up will be looking for a home! Thanks to Alexx for rescuing him! #catsofENY #catabscess #bigolestraycat instagr.am/p/CmHLyf0OyBn/
