Because sometimes the earth is in the way. Somewhere near Winslow Arizona and still a little ways from Roswell.

Astrophotography is one of the most complex forms of photography mankind has ever devised. This is the first time I have captured a "fast meteor".

than a sleepy and permanent planet."

Meteores, Kalambaka, Greecehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteora Thanks for your support, I will be back to commenting soon!

On the night of August 13th to the 14th, an unexpected meteor outburst surprised astronomers. All sky cameras observed about 1,000 meteors in the sky. I was very lucky to see several of them, and then have my camera roll on the peak of the unexpected outburst between 2am and 5am. The image below shows a composite of more than 30 meteors in 3 hours across a small portion of the sky. (Explored # 175) www.rossellet.com

Gloster Meteor T7 WL419 used as a flying test bed (ejection seats) by Martin Baker since 1964!!!.

50,000 years ago a fiery giant meteor mass weighing several hundred thousand tons hurtled through space and impacted earth. The Crater’s diameter reaches 4,100 feet (1.2 km) with a depth of 570 feet (173 m). The rim’s height above the surrounding plain is 120-200 ft (36- 61m), with a total volume of 82,000,000 cubic yards (62,700,000 cubic meters). 300-400 million tons of rock were displaced by the impact (272-363 million metric tons). The highest point on the rim is 5,723 feet (1,744m) above sea level.

I did go out with the nuts to take photos of the Perseid Meteor shower - they were not as abundant or visible as we expected according to the news. I have seen big shows in my past on trips out west.

Anyhow this is a composite of a barn and the sky. The meteors were too high above the horizon where we were located so I had to add the barns to make an interesting image - so Happy Slider's Sunday!! (HSS)

There are 3 meteors in this image - the one that is really visible and then two very close together near middle center if you blow up the photo you can see.
