Here is a shot of my coworker cutting some metal using a plasma cutter. I took this a while back when I had brought the camera to work. I was looking through some old stuff and thought this one had some potential for a nice gritty HDR.

Seaham's latest sculpture by Ray Lonsdale - already affectionately known as "Tommy's Little Brother"

This sculpture is dedicated to all RNLI lifeboat heroes and is installed on the East Quay of Seaham Harbour Marina in sight of both lifeboat houses from which Seaham's lifeboats were launched during the 109 years of the Stations life

The American flags as a dinosaur guards a welding shop in Newark, Ohio.

Gazing at this structure feels like looking into the preserved industrial heart of San Francisco, far removed from the city's glossy tech veneer. This image captures the raw, formidable architecture of a historic warehouse or factory building at Pier 70, likely taken just as the early morning blue hour transitions into day. The atmosphere is stark, quiet, and dramatically lit, creating a powerful sense of place and history. The deep indigo of the sky provides a cool, rich backdrop, contrasting sharply with the artificial light spilling from the interior windows and catching the rusted patina of the building's exterior.

The structure is clearly defined by its materials. The lower half features a strong, continuous red brick base, a classic foundation for turn-of-the-century industrial architecture, topped by a slightly faded band of white paint. Above this, the main body of the building is clad in corrugated metal siding, likely steel, which shows evidence of age and exposure to the elements. The texture is rough, utilitarian, and deeply atmospheric. A massive, central black smokestack pierces the skyline, dominating the vertical composition and emphasizing the building's original function as a working factory or shipyard component. Flanking the structure is a large, inverted conical hopper or funnel, a piece of fixed industrial machinery that adds to the scene's complex geometry and heavy, engineered aesthetic.

The photograph uses the darkness of the early morning to amplify the contrast. The long, straight sidewalk and the empty street in the foreground, illuminated by the low cast of streetlamps (not explicitly visible, but implied by the warm side lighting), pull the viewer's eye toward the imposing structure. Small details, like the 'No Parking' sign on the far left, confirm this is a working urban area. This is a powerful visual document of San Francisco's maritime and industrial past, celebrating the unpolished beauty of utilitarian architecture and the deep shadows cast by history along the waterfront.

Welder was welding the metal structure when added with cement will form a concrete pillar. As this is near my apartment, I can now learn more about building.

Behold this powerful scene, a preserved fragment of San Francisco's heavy industrial history captured during the quiet, transitional light of the early morning blue hour. The atmosphere is cool, stark, and dramatically lit, emphasizing the formidable scale and utilitarian architecture of this large warehouse or factory building at Pier 70. The deep indigo of the pre-dawn sky provides a rich, contrasting backdrop, intensifying the warmth of the interior lights and the dark tones of the structure.

The building is a study in raw, durable materials. The base features a continuous stretch of bright red brick, a classic foundation for turn-of-the-century industrial architecture. Above this, the lower wall transitions to a long, pale-colored section of corrugated metal siding, which stretches horizontally across the middle ground. The upper portion of the structure is clad in heavily weathered and slightly rusted corrugated metal, punctuated by large, repeating window openings that reflect the interior's yellowish glow.

A massive, central black smokestack dominates the roofline, its cylindrical form asserting the building's identity as a former center of manufacturing or naval activity. Adjacent to it, a large, inverted conical hopper or funnel, a piece of fixed industrial machinery, adds a complex, engineered silhouette to the scene. In the foreground, the clean concrete sidewalk and the empty street are framed by a prominent red 'No Parking' sign on the left, confirming its use as an active, urban area, even in the stillness of the dawn. This photograph is a compelling visual document, celebrating the unpolished, resilient beauty of San Francisco’s maritime past.
