Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is a typically Provençal village dramatically situated below two cliffs in the Natural Regional Park of Verdon and on the western side of the Gorges du Verdon. The village is officially listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France.

Perched 100 metres up the high limestone cliff, the setting for Moustiers is as attractive as the medieval village itself: everywhere you go in the village you have a backdrop of mountains.

The layout of Moustiers is defined by its geography: a canyon crosses the centre of the village, with the main village centre across the gorge, the historic centre mostly to the left of here, and the path to the famous chapel leading up the gorge.

The photo shows the medieval 'Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption' with its decorative four-storey square belltower, the most important historical monument in Moustiers.

The church was originally built in the 12th century and retains part of its original roman style, although significant modifications were made in the 16th century (hence the gothic style reinforcements on the side of the church). Behind the church is a pretty square with a fountain and a view across the gorge.

You can also see part of the original defensive ramparts in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, while a natural scenic highlight is the waterfall in the village centre that results from a stream emerging from the bottom of the cliff.

Before tourism became the dominant industry here Moustiers had a long history of making attractive pottery ('fayence'), a tradition that continues to this day and which you will see in some of the numerous workshops in the village.

The artwork in the foreground is one of many dotted around the village. I like the contrast with it and the church.

Steam Punk weekend at Crich Tramway Village. Just look at the detail this gentleman has made of his metallic Owl.

A striking metal sculpture of a cloaked pilgrim bearing a cross and a faithful companion stands solemnly in the vast Anza Borrego Desert. Framed by rugged mountains and under an expansive, blue sky, the artwork’s rusted patina echoes the harsh and timeless beauty of the landscape. While the sculpture brings a sense of narrative and spiritual symbolism to the scene, the bold, man-made figure disrupts the untouched serenity of the desert, inviting viewers to reflect on humanity's place within this natural expanse. This metal art piece is part of the Galleta Meadows Sculptures in Borrego Springs, California, created by artist Ricardo Breceda. The sculpture you’re seeing is titled "Juan Bautista de Anza" and depicts a Spanish explorer with a cross, symbolizing his historic expedition through the region in the 18th century.

has some cool metal-eating buzzard artwork up on the roof. Every time we pass by I say "Next time I'm gonna get a photo!"

This time we actually turned around and did.

The owner seems to have a good sense of humor, as well as talent with the torch!

Posting the rest of 2013's photos to make room in the camera for 2014's adventures.

These are from a trip we made during School Break last October & November.

... or in this case our mantleshelf with Christmas deccies.

Hope you are all keeping warm and cosy (or cool and relaxed depending upon which part of the world you are :-).).

In the background is the Corning Tower. Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York.

It did not occur to me until we were blocks away why it was made with so many horseshoes.

Duh - it's a seahorse!

Sometimes I'm not too quick on the uptake :)

For one of my assignment at school I had to take portraits of a person I knew and one I did not know. I met this gentlemen as I bypassed a local nature spot in town. On the grounds much to my suprise is a working blacksmith shop.Oddly I bypass this place daily-no one is ever there. He kindly invited me in, he told me stories as I photogrphed him. He then called me back the next night at 9pm as he knew i was hoping for better lighting - so he said want to meet in 10 minutes for for more shots of him? He was the perfect person to shoot. Quite an eccelect man indeed. He loves his eye for art (in metal), and showed me a few peices. I asked him to sit in his OLD run down truck so I could get a different photo that really showed his personality. I opened the passenger door and piles of metal parts rolled out at me. I believe a few colorful words blurted out of my mouth :)! Take a look---a chainlinked steering wheel, suspenders, and a greatful Dead t-shirt ....now that tells the story right there.

Metal Sculptures of Galleta Meadows

Borrego Springs, Anza Borrego

Galleta Meadows: Although not exactly a hike, one interesting thing to do in Anza Borrego is to look at the life-size metal sculptures created by Ricardo Breceda. This activity will require that you drive a little, stop the car to admire the colossal artwork, then get back into the car to see the next one. Thus, this could be something to do when it is too hot to hike. Though, these sculptures are amazing regardless of the weather!

Multimillionaire Dennis Avery (as in "Avery" office supplies) commissioned Ricardo Breceda to create a "creature desert" for all to enjoy. The metal sculptures (which include dinosaurs, saber-toothed cats, sloths, birds of prey, wild horses, elephants, llamas, camels, and various people) can be found on the estate called "Galleta Meadows" in Borrego Springs. Although this is private property, it is open to the public. Dennis Avery allows visitors to enter his desert estate to enjoy the giant metal creatures.

The sculptures are made with scrap reinforcement bars, wire, and metal. Breceda welds these raw materials together and then adds texture by pounding the metal with hammers and sledgehammers. Currently, there are over 50 sculptures but Avery and Breceda hope to have over 100 when they are done.

Communicating with the Moon

Moon Lollipop? Mood Docking Station? So many titles, so little space and time. I find that celestial objects follow a routine in their movements. Our companion in space has habits that humans have noticed over time. There has always been a connection between humans and the moon. I think women even more so than men. Your results may vary 🤔

Blamed for many things historically the moon has. That lunar disk has played an important role in our history and even language. “Lunatic” is derived from several languages denotes to the madness or hysteria caused by the moon. Then even from the Old English “monseoc,” implying lunatic, epileptic and “lunatic” literally translates to “moon-sick”; From the Latin word “lunaticus,” . That originally referred mostly to epilepsy and madness. Such diseases were thought to be imparted to humans. The moon was responsible for that.

The ancients certainly noticed strange human behavior coterminous with the appearance of the full moon. As a police officer in Ohio, I noticed an increase in strange events during the full moon. The scuttle butt in the station was “watch out, it’s a full moon.

Here I have firm photographic evidence that the moon is trying to communicate with us. As a ham radio guy, I’m always monitoring something or another but no one has picked up Moon Magic certainly
