This gorgeous Burrowing Owlet wasn't in the least bit fazed by our presence and seemed quite mesmerised by the sunrise ..... at least for a moment but then it was quickly back to more comical antics with its siblings!
Taken at Cape Coral, Florida.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.
Before you scroll away from this feisty beauty, be assured that this is no ordinary cat. This is a Scottish Wildcat (aka the Highland Tiger!) and this shot was taken mid hiss. This breed of cat is absolutely feral and doesnt tolerate patting, stroking or general nearness to him. He's called McTavish and whilst I respectfully keep my distance, I admire him from afar...
Sadly at risk of extinction in Scotland... Photographed with love at British Wildlife Centre
"When we don’t have information, we go to the simplest outlook, to black and white. But then we have to lie to ourselves. Black is never as black as you’re painting it and white is never as white". – Patricia Sun
I have been going to the North Pine Dam for a sunset capture since April 2020 and have come home with nothing. Simply the sky was just not there for a sunset photo.
Sometimes I was on my own and sometimes I had company. On this given evening I had good company. I knew that I would take a good capture because the composition of the sky was saying so.
We watched the sun set ever so slowly with the dead tree that has been standing in this dam for as long as I have been photographing sunsets there.
I love sunsets, the way the warm sunset light transforms and disperses through the clouds as each minute goes by is mesmerising, and it makes it all the more special when you have great company with you like I did on this evening!
This sunset capture is best in black and white due to the way the sunset light was being dispersed through the clouds!
Atara is a hissy queen!! A very very beautiful but hissy North Chinese Leopard. Always a joy at the Big Cat Sanctuary.
Deer are fascinating to watch and I'm so pleased to have captured this wee behaviour from this impressive Red Deer stag. He was so permanently furious and stompy but mesmerising to watch and capture with my camera. It isnt just deer who do this (Big cats and horses do this too) but it is a known behaviour for scenting females and whilst the stag looks like he is sneering, he stretches his neck, lifts his nose and curls his top lip, maximising exposure to air containing pheromones to his vomeronasal organ, (located in the roof of his mouth). This helps him detect Doe's in Oestrus.
Nature is truly incredible.
This is Athena. Majestic, lethal but so mesmerising.....
Photographed at Big Cat Sanctuary, Kent, UK
Have been neglecting my treasured leopards recently, time for some leopard love. This stunning gorgeous girl was having a rest on top of an ant hill on the plains of Sabi Sands , South Africa. She was giving us such an intense look and I found her eyes mesmerising - from a distance with a telephoto lens of course!
Happy weekend everyone, when it arrives in your part of the world. Highs of 24c and sunny here, perfect ☀️
Jaspyr, discovering catmint, for the first time…
Bought some catmint [Nepeta] plants for the garden, and Jaspyr was absolutely mesmerised by them. He inhaled, chewed, sucked and rolled all over them! Then, Aspyn appeared on the scene, and did exactly the same.
Apparently, the magical properties in this lovely wee plant stimulate a euphoric state in some cats. Funny to watch both cats come under the sway of the mint. I wonder how long they will last in the garden if they’re treated like this at the first meeting in the yard.

Today’s trip down memory lane is to the unforgettable time, way back in 2012, when we went sea cave kayaking in stunning Phang Nga Bay in the Strait of Malacca. This awe-inspiring bay is filled with majestic limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, and mysterious sea caves, some of which we were lucky enough to explore by kayak.
After paddling under the overhanging sea cliffs, you enter the squishy tunnel through the caves, lying flat your nose nearly touching the ceiling, only navigable at low tide. Then you glide out the other side into a magical place! A place that takes your breath away and renders everyone silent Beautiful secluded natural lagoons surrounded by lush greenery, wild monkeys chattering in the trees, and the gentle lapping of the waves. A place lost to time and civilisation. Magical.
Later, after recovering from the day’s adventures, you make a traditional Krathong (offering). Imagine putting together things like banana leaves, flowers & candles trying to make something that floats. (Lucky my daughter was good at it, me not so good😉) Then as the sun is setting, you climb back into your kayak and head into a dark cave with your Krathong where the candles are lit, and the offering set afloat. Watching the flames flicker in the dark was a mesmerising experience.
To finish the day its back to the boat for the trip back to port drifting on an ocean, and past islands, painted shades of orange and red by a stunning sunset. It has to be the most beautiful natural wonder in Thailand 😊
Thanks for bearing with me while I bared my thoughts.
The uppermost section of a tall waterfall I posted some time ago, a single shot couldn't do the whole justice in my opinion, as such, I posted the foot a couple of days ago and now the top. Falling water never ceases to mesmerise.
A photograph I’ve kept for a while but not put on Flickr. It’s from the open day at Stody Lodge where there’s a mesmerising display of rhododendrons and azaleas. I’ve tried several times to add tags but they keep disappearing. I’ll keep trying.
Our 400+ miles drive home from Edinburgh yesterday was absolutely mesmerising thanks to first frost and a landscape that looked spectacular with its changed colours and the glorious light of the setting sun. There is something about a cold, sunny winter day in open landscape which always gets to me. I so love this furtive beauty.
Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!
This is the second photograph for Flickr from the ‘whirling wader’ spectacle at the RSPB site at Snettisham. As we walked to the shore line, an estimated 160,000 birds took flight. The incoming high tide pushed them off the mudflats. As the tide receded, the birds all came back. It was totally mesmerising. Clearly the birds (knots, ducks, seagulls, geese) had to quit the mud flats. I’ve read that the birds’ elaborate display confuses predators. However, as they whirled round the sky, I concluded that the birds were spectacularly and noisily enjoying themselves. As was I.
This was a calm, yet stormy afternoon in Port Germein where small storms slowly developed but passed over quickly. I was mesmerised by the slow tidal movement over the sandflats half way along the Port Germein jetty. The crescent shaped bars of sand would quickly be swallowed up by the slight inward moving ripples which seemed to come in small sets. It is one of those places where despite having a fairly small tidal range, you can see the tidal movement as it creeps slowly in. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon!
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
A mesmerising and strange sunset we watched while ending our photoshoot at Dynjandi waterfall in Iceland's Westfjords.
Another shot taken in morning light at ocean reef marina. the light hitting the golden grasses was mesmerising.
Lethe, the river of forgetfulness, was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld, the other four being Styx, Acheron (the river of sorrow), Cocytus (the river of lamentation) and Phlegethon (the river of fire). According to Statius, it bordered Elysium, the final resting place of the virtuous. Ovid wrote that the river flowed through the cave of Hypnos, god of sleep, where its murmuring would induce drowsiness.
The sea kisses the sand, whispering tenderly: "Do not be afraid of the scorching sun, we have come today to cool you - as every day for thousands of years."
The beach in Diakofti is one of the two that I have seen sand with slight pink shades because of the rubbed corals (the other is Falaserna in Crete). When the Gods created Earth, they were very generous with Greece ...
Karpathos island, Greece.
(Columba palumbus) Although the woodpigeons in our garden have built several nests, this is the first youngster we've seen. They are not the prettiest of babies but they are strangely mesmerising......
The Jockey Club Innovation Tower, Polytechnic University, Hong Kong
I was mesmerised by the building when I first saw it and I knew right away I had to come back to explore this building with my camera. I was drinking a Japanese beer with a friend of mine who studies at this university; she mentioned that this building is actually designed by the late Zaha Hadid and a lot of people have taken photos of the building but they all look the same. Arrogantly, I immediately said I will come back and take one you have never seen before. I am pretty happy with the result but please call me out if you ever come across a take similar to this dated before 25/11/2016 ;).
Some technical points, this photo was taken at ISO2500, 1/60, f/5.6 with a Sony A7. Sometimes you get these noisy purple-ish tone in the shadows especially when the ISO is starting to be high. However I actually have stopped doing noise reduction in my photos for a long time and I didn't do any noise reduction again with this photo despite the higher than perfect ISO. The point I want to make is that don't be afraid of high ISOs and noise. The purpleish tone from the noise and the refracted street lights are playing an important role with the overall mood in this photo in my opinion. It's also important to note that different cameras have a different level of ISO tolerance so the ISO number I provided is only a reference but the overall main point remains.
Thanks for reading and have a lovely day :),

I'm not sure what might be happening with atmospherics at the moment but we have been getting some wonderful and long lasting sunsets here in Mount Gambier. Last night's was another vivid beauty. This shot was taken almost an hour after the sun went below the horizon. The stars were well and truly shining overhead. I was amazed at the vivid hues it still gave even another half an hour after this was taken. I think even the birds perched on our village TV antenna were mesmerised!
Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!
Soon there will be these lovely pink flowers creating a beautiful colorful atmosphere.
Thought I'd share a picture form last Spring with this mesmerising blue sky and pink cherry blossom.
Have a fabulous Wednesday!!
I encountered these multi-coloured strands of vegetation flowing under the water in a fast flowing stream while I was on the Island of Mull. The little stream was about to enter the sea at Loch Buie. The colours and swaying motion of it were mesmerising.
This is a privately owned temple at Chiang Rai. It is completedly white and very unique. The White Temple (วัดร่องขุ่น) is primarily a work of art that tourists and guests can visit. It is not intended to let you stay and pray, no incense, no donations, no support for candles. Around the main building, there are some creations of the artist like heads hanging in trees where you will recognise superherous, souvenir shops or food stalls and a gallery of the owner, Mr Chalermchai Kositpipat (เฉลิมชัย โฆษิตพิพัฒน์) . Toilets are very stylish golden buildings. Try to stop by when you are around Chiang Rai. Take note as well that when you visit temples in Thailand, you need to know and follow the rules like dressing up properly, be quiet, take off your shoes when entering the buildings etc . Most of all…be ready to be mesmerised!
I went for a walk this afternoon, and became mesmerised by the mist and the light from the setting sun.
Another shot from my first beach visit back in Wales, after my Sussex trip! The night really welcomed me back in spectacular style. Once the sun sank below the horizon the various clouds all took turns in changing colour, quite mesmerising, so Faraway eyes, A Rolling Stones cover by The Handsome Family is perfect, I'm always looking to see if the sun will show!
Just one of the residents cycling along the promenade...
I was in a rush today for various reasons so only just had time to add this bit but the funny thing at the time of this shot was the gentleman before he mounted the cycle was talking to some people as a smallish crowd had gathered. He pronounced to everyone that he couldn’t bear to be part of this computerised world and totally embraced his life living as if from a bygone age. Saying he was more comfortable living that way……….and then……his smartphone rang and he answered with alacrity lol 😂
Taken roughly half an hour before the previous shot looking south.. the waves had an almost mesmerising effect or hypnotic.. Either way I just enjoyed watching them and was actually pleased that the tide was going out as this is the place where I got hyperthermia when literally frozen like a rabbit caught in headlights after my wellies filled with water and on hearing someone exclaim realised people were behind me and found myself unable to move. Definitely an empty beach on this occasion so I just enjoyed the waves.....
