Approaching storm...that eventually passed over,

even though it was threatening looking!

This one looks awesome in stereoscopic 3D

An almost impossibly windy Friday and a great temple wedding couple- who booked all the way from Kansas! After speaking with the bride it was quite clear she was in love with her shoes almost as much as her groom! When she found them, they swept her off her feet!

Say's Phoebe by the river in remote Mesa, Arizona, US

This is my dear Mother in law, Jean.

She invites me to attend the Temple with her often. She's a wonderful lady and I am blessed to know her.

Just when I thought I had figured out what goes into a picture's 'Interesting' rating - this picture comes along.

No favorities, no comments. Posted in 3 of my sets and 1 group pool, and only been viewed 11 times.

But it is my 3rd most interesting picture (overall), and my most interesting picture taken this year.

Well... by us; here he made himself at home under the statue.

Stopped by this classic sign on the way home from work last night. This lens is too fast, and even overexposed the sign… gotta practice more with it! It looks like lights were flying all around it. #voigtlander29mmf08 #supernokton #joecowphoto #mesaaz #starlightmotel #ufo #lensflare

She walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

And all that's best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes:

Thus mellowed to that tender light

Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

EXPLORE #55 on 08-18-08

Shot out my car window. Horizon is a little too centered. Guess I am having a lazy day and just posting as is. LOL. I like the reflections off the building in the left back area.

Best viewed large Click on All Sizes in the menu above.

Did I mention I love reflecting pools? Well I do and I love predawn photography as well.

I'm not Mormon but I have several close friends who are LDS and have been to and by the LDS Temple in Mesa Arizona several times and I've always wanted to photograph it just before sunrise.

I also wanted to do the west entrance as most people capture the north reflecting pool. For this my first attempt I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital camera and a Canon EF 17-40mm F/4L USM Zoom lens.

This is straight out of the camera no Photoshop converted RAW to JPEG using Canon Digital Photo Professional I played with the white balance to get the unique look.

Nothing Screams "I'm an American" Like a Fourth of July Strobist style ShalerJump

YES, we were nearly shut-down 1/2 way through the action be a security officer whose supervisor thought we should be doing our thing. We were on the top floor of Fiesta Mall Parking Garage in Mesa AZ. The mall encourages people to watch the fireworks there, and it was a full house The guard said something about "All this equipment"

The guard started to say that photography is not allowed, but they let it happen for the Fourth, (duh) I basically said that we're no different than the other people with their cameras. I pointed to a few people w/ tripods and D-SLR's I politely said that although the strobes might be bright, so were the fireworks. We're just taking some pictures of our friends and trying to be patriotic.

Yes we were where the cars could drive, yet the garage was packed full and nobody should be driving, although some people did come late. The guy understood, got on his radio and let us continue. (yeeee ha!) So, if people give you static. POLITELY reason with them and ask what makes a Strobist any different than anyone else with a camera. Why should crappy photographers get away with photography when the world just needs better photos?! :-)

Anyway, what did you do on the Fourth, Just fireworks or did you do it strobist style?

A different view of the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I always like the tall palm trees towering beside the structure.

I took this photo of Red Mountain early Saturday morning just after sunrise.

I've always loved how red it is even at noon but early in the morning with the fiery red rays of the sun it looks amazing.

From Wikipedia:

Red Mountain (Mount McDowell) is located on the Salt River Indian Reservation, just north of Mesa, Arizona. It is named after General Irvin McDowell, a Union officer in the Civil War.

Red Mountain is sometimes referred to as "FireRock," and the deep cleft on its western side (visible from both Power Road and SR 87) is known as "Gunsight" because of its resemblance to the narrow slot in a fort used for firing at attackers.

Dia de los Muertos

I took this belly photograph of B-17 Sentimental Journey on take off from Falcon Field in Mesa AZ with landing gear retracting on January 3rd 2009.

I was going to use my Canon 85mm F/1.2 II L lens to try and photograph some of the static displays and people at the CAF and wasn't ready to capture airplanes in flight. The 85mm F/1.2 is usually a portrait lens and focuses slowly, but I heard Sentimental Journey taking off and could not resist stopping down to F/4 and trying to get the shot. And I got it as she flew right over my head!!! Click on All Sizes and see the larger version. The details are amazing!
