Not the greatest POV but this guy was just giving me the business when i was walking evidently too close to an unseen nest with my dog.

As we walked through a kissing gate imagine our surprise to find this female Merlin perched within 6 or 7 metres from us! She posed for a couple of photos and then flew off into a tree. A first for me!

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.

Would have loved a more 'natural' post for this little falcon, but what can you do?

In my experience, the propensity to see Prairie Merlins, like this one, is greatest in autumn.

Avro Lancaster " Just Jane" runs her four Rolls-Royce Merlins for the photographers, at East Kirkby.

Merlin is Gismo's brother, both are now 10 weeks old.

Unfortunately, her mom didn't get along with my older cats at all.

But my sister was so kind and took care of her and since I kept the little one, there were no problems with her cats either.

However, the previous person couldn't (or didn't want to) take his brother in after all, so I brought him in too. The joy of seeing the two sweet guys again brings tears to my eyes, making it impossible for me to regret my decision.

A friend told us that there was a family of Merlins near Morrisburg, Ontario. We decided to try our luck a week after he informed us and when we arrive at the scene we immediately spot 2 merlins on the electric poles. Not really the best place to shoot but we took a lot of time to watch them. The 2 merlins then move on the treetops. Then we find 2 others merlins across the street and another one on another post. A very nice family of 5 merlins at the same place

Thank you again Gregory for sharing your finding with us

Beautiful Merlin with his recent catch, It was carefully removing the feathers to expose the flesh. My first photo of a Merlin. Happy, happy guy. :-)

This Merlin (Falco columbarius) successfully captured a bird and was busily de-feathering, then breaking it down to morsel size before consuming the prey on a perch near the south end of Beaverhill Lake east of Tofield, Alberta, Canada.

I saw this merlin in this tree as I was looking for the snowy owl. Such a great surprise and it stayed long enough for some nice photos.
