For the Macro Mondays Theme: Screw

Thank you for your time, faves and comments, it's much appreciated

Happy Macro Mondays

It took a lot of patience, a lot of tries, a lot of failures, a lot of megabites and a lot of wetness to get this picture, but I'm happy with the result.

At 1.44 megabites per floppy, the total of 45 discs= 64.8 megabites. Not even enough to hold 25 photos on an old digital camera!

Photo course - last meeting and selection of photos for the exhibition in May. Somehow this time everything went by as blurry. This ICM photo describes this feeling probably the best ..... The reason: all photos on my computer are no longer available as a large original file (Megabite quality). Mistake of me ---- I hate computer !!!!! 😭😠

Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park. Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world. Its colors include blue, green, yellow, orange, gold, red and brown. To see into the pool requires a hike to the top of a knoll above the spring.

Double Arch at Arches National Park in Moab Utah. This is a huge formation, I shot it at 58mm, first I shot a low shot, then a high shot then photomerged them so I could have a file that I could print larger if needed. It can be printed at 44x48 inches because of the 93 megabite tiff file. I than used the content aware tool to get rid of the people in the scene.

The "content aware fill tool" can be problematic and you have to sometimes marquee the area several times before you get a fill you are satasfied with but I am really liking it.

Yellowstone National Park's Lower Yellowstone Falls and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone from Uncle Tom's Trail.

Lower Yellowstone Falls drops 308 feet into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. Lower Falls, the biggest waterfall in Yellowstone, is the most famous in the Park, hands down. In fact, the 308-foot tall waterfall it is most likely the second most photographed spot in Yellowstone, with Old Faithful Geyser being the first. This shot was taken from Uncle Tom's Trail, Uncle Tom's Trail is a wonderful trail that takes you from the top of the Canyon to the base of the 308-foot-high Lower Falls. You can almost always see a rainbow cutting through the falls' powerful splash and mist.

This photo is three photos merged to make a 104 megabite file so could be printed quite large.

Double Arch, Arches National Park. I was shooting from the inside of this double arch structure looking out.

This is a photo merge, I shot two shots of the top then two shots at the bottom. I merged the upper and lower on the left then merged the two on the right. I then merged the left and the right together.

A wide angle can't take in this whole scene and that is why I love the photo merge feature on software today. A side benefit is the file is now a 122 megabite tiff that can print at very large perportions.

I got rid of a couple of dozen people and a parking lot full of motorhomes using Photoshop CS5's "content aware fill.

I know this is not necessarily a "still" but as I came up with nothing...I thought a still picture of life might be ok. And if it helps, they are still, extremely so, until you make a sound and they think you're their Mama come to feed them.

Granville St & Nelson St

Top photo - photographer unknown. My collection.

BCER streetcar heads northbound along Granville Street.

While highrise condos are sprouting up in the surrounding area, it seems like the 1000 block of Granville Street remains intact (amazingly, but for how much longer). Some of the buildings on this block have been renovated or updated. Streetlight fixtures were replaced once in the early 1970s (see Part 2) and then again after Canada Line construction was completed in 2009. The Royal Hotel had undergone some renovations in the late 1990s, and eventually became a Hostelling International property in the early 2000s. The clothing store at the corner had become a household appliance store (see Part 2), and is now home to Megabite Pizza. The New Flyer E40LFR (2242) in the bottom photo is a unique trolley bus. It paid a visit to Edmonton, Alberta & Seattle, Washington as a demonstrator (see below).

Now apparently out of business.

Castle Geyser blows during a slight wind and creates a little drizzle below at Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin near Old Faithful Inn. Castle Geyser is a cone geyser in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. It is noted for the particularly large sinter deposits, which form its cone. These deposits have been likened in appearance to a castle.

Photographs of Lukas for his family Christmas cards this year.

I took this next set of photos yesterday at a memorial service for CHP Sgt. Kevin Enox. It wasn't a line of duty death, but he was a well loved and respected man, and had worked with officers from all over the state, so there was a great turnout and fitting tribute for him.

As much as I try to take good landscape photos, I think I am better suited to photojournalism than landscapes. I have yet to take a landscape photo I'm really happy with, but I love a lot of the photos I take at memorial services and of family on vacation.

All the photos are best when viewed large. The small default size just really doesn't do them justice. And the largest size available here are roughly 5.7 megabites, and 40% of the original size. The originals are in TIFF format, and over 20 megabites each...way more detailed.

I bought it new in '91, it cost me £440. Originally dark blue with light blue splats (!) I stripped it down and repainted it last year, then used it single speed for a while with Schwalbe 1.5 slicks. Now its back to the knobblies and the forestry trails.

Yes, this is Mel from Flight of the Conchords. Second day of the Solid Sound Festival at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemorary Art. (We missed the first day because of insane traffic on I-95 on the way up.) The whole thing was organized and headlined by Wilco. It was an amazing weekend! It stayed in the 80's in the day and low sixties at night with very low humidity.

Kristen Schall was one of the comedians they had performing early in the day and she was very bawdy and hilarious! We were in the front row and she pretended to make me a piece of Oragami but at the last second used some pretty obvious slight of hand to produce a fake flower while her partner was beatboxing behind her.

I was bummed because I couldn't get my SLR in the first day and only had the point and shoot, which for some reason only had an 8 megabite flash card in it. I didn't get any pictures of Wilco's set cause they would have looked crappy. But I was able to sneek my D90 in the next day and get some good shots of the other bands and Jeff Tweedy's Solo set, which included a bunch of great musicians and most of Wilco.

More shots to come!

Council bosses in Rossendale have begun compulsory purchase order proceedings on three empty former homes and one shop as part of a revamp campaign.

The former Haslingden Bookshop, between the Golden Moon and Megabite takeaways in Deardengate, is the fourth target of the town hall’s empty homes strategy.

Deputy mayor Coun Gladys Sandiford, who represents Greenfield ward, said: “The old book shop has been empty for quite some time and we will be glad to see it done up.

It'll do if you're drunk and on the way home and nothing else is open. But, I wouldn't eat it sober or order it for delivery. This particular location of Megabite is in a very prime spot for people heading home from, say, a game or a concert.
