Quallen schwimmen durch eine sich zusammenziehende Bewegung ihres Schirmes, bei der sie nach dem Rückstoßprinzip Wasser nach unten ausstoßen. Der Rückstoß erzeugt einen Vortrieb, auch wenn beim Ansaugvorgang dieselbe Menge Wasser eingesaugt wird. Dies liegt daran, dass er schnell und düsenartig nach hinten gerichtet erfolgt, während das einströmende Wasser langsam und ungerichtet angesaugt wird. Mit diesem Prinzip können sie bis zu zehn Kilometer pro Stunde zurücklegen. Quallen sind nicht in der Lage, längere Strecken gegen eine Wasserströmung anzuschwimmen. Trotz ihrer Größe werden sie daher zum Plankton gerechnet.

Medusa, in Greek mythology, the most famous of the monster figures known as Gorgons. She was usually represented as a winged female creature having a head of hair consisting of snakes; unlike the Gorgons, she was sometimes represented as very beautiful.

Blended a statue at our park with some clouds that I took some years ago. Not sure where I got the idea but I wanted to use her in some sort of photo :)
A walk in a small, local woodland provided a good opportunity to study the body of some of the oak trees while they are bare in the winter months
