Nieuwe Kerk - in 1584, William the Silent was entombed here in a mausoleum. Since then members of the House of Orange-Nassau have been entombed in the royal crypt. The private royal family crypt is not open to the public. The church tower, designed by Pierre Cuypers and completed in 1872, is the second highest in the Netherlands, after the Domtoren in Utrecht.

Note the dragon in the rafters.

This attic was a storage area, I believe, for goods, in this major active merchants' hall.

After visiting La Chaux-de-Fonds, my teacher and her partner showed me her beautiful village of Saint-Aubin-Sauges and its neighbour village of Gorgier in the canton of Neuchâtel. Deep in a beautiful forest is the medieval Gorgier castle. This shows the entrance gate. Note that the Gorgier castle is a private castle not open to the public.

Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England.

The abbey is a Grade I listed building owned by the National Trust and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
