The wall towers dating originally to the Roman fortifications have a distinctive U shape, low pitch tile roofs, and courses of brick in the stone masonry. The flat side is to the inner surface of the wall.

I think this is the main cathedral in Rennes, but I'm not sure.

can you see the little statues built within the end of the flying buttresses?

As technology advanced with building the Gothic churches, it meant they could go higher and bigger as support was carried into the buttresses!

The result is no longer the squat little churches, now they have become tall graceful buildings.
