Going through a process of adjusting medications for heart related issues. Keeps me from getting out and shooting. Sometimes I think the cure is worse than the illness : )

Male Wood Duck
The Wood Duck is one of the most stunningly pretty of all waterfowl. Males are iridescent chestnut and green, with ornate patterns on nearly every feather; the elegant females have a distinctive profile and delicate white pattern around the eye.
These birds live in wooded swamps, where they nest in holes in trees or in nest boxes put up around lake margins. They are one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches.
Wood Ducks pair up in January, and most birds arriving at the breeding grounds in the spring are already paired. The Wood Duck is the only North American duck that regularly produces two broods in one year.
The Wood Duck nests in trees near water, sometimes directly over water, but other times over a mile away. After hatching, the ducklings jump down from the nest tree and make their way to water.
The mother calls them to her but does not help them in any way. The ducklings may jump from heights of over 50 feet without injury.
The oldest recorded Wood Duck was a male and 22 years. He had been banded in Oregon and was found in California.

Three pills, part of my daily medication! At this macro magnification, they appear like horse pills in size!

A "no-fuss, no frills" type of image to begin another year of Macro Mondays ;) I know that one day, I, too, will have a small container of these great-looking translucent, oval, amber-coloured jelly pills at home for the next medicine/pills-related theme, because they look so good in a macro photo. But since I didn't have any, I made do with what was at hand, and I was lucky to find these health supplement capsules, filled with tiny granules containing zinc, in the "med drawer". I still conducted some research beforehand, hoping to find something more visually appealing (like the aforementioned jelly capsules), and was surprised to find that empty capsules are sold online for everyone. I wonder what a private person might want to fill them with and why in the first place...
Anyway, so this is my entry for "Medicine". I photographed the open capsule from different angles and found this version to be nice-looking enough. I illuminated the scene from above (two LED flashlights from the left and right, one held by a clamp, the other handheld), and also from the front with a tiny keychain bag light that emits a blue-ish/purple-ish light. I also did focus stacking (the usual 15 in-camera Raws, combined in Helicon Focus, method B, R8, S4).
HMM, Everyone, and wishing all of you a wonderful MM 2026!
P.S. I'll catch up with you a little later!

The sun is the best source of vitamin D and it's completely free. But sometimes we need to take those encapsulated drops of sunshine if we don't go out in the sun every day, like me, lately.
(The photo simply shows two vitamin D capsules against a background of sunlight on my iPhone screen.) ☀️

Some studies have found that hibiscus tea may lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. However, to prevent an interaction, it should not be taken in combination with blood pressure medications.
Animal studies have found that hibiscus extract has antioxidant properties. Additional studies are needed to determine how this may translate to humans.
Some studies have shown that hibiscus tea may reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in those with diabetes and metabolic syndrome. However, other studies have produced conflicting results. More research is needed in the general population
Aw Chu Kin was a Chinese herbalist at the imperial court of China in the 19th century. He used a gentle herbal ointment from the traditional Chinese pharmacopoeia to relieve the emperor of various ailments.
In the late 1870s, Aw Chu Kin left China for the capital of Burma, Rangoon. He then set up a specialty herbal shop and sold his own medicinal preparations, derived from ancestral traditions, the secret of which only he possessed. This included an extremely diverse ointment for relieving physical pain. This is how Tiger Balm came into being.

Macro Mondays: Medications
It has been about 3 weeks since I have seen the sunshine here so taking vitamin D supplements is a MUST for me. This clump stuck together when I took them out of the bottle and the first thing that came to mind was that it was like a little burst of sunshine - just what I need for this gloomy, sunless January day.
Thanks for your visit...Happy Macro Monday!
My triglycerides were extremely high on my blood work a few weeks back so the Dr. had me start fish oil pills. It's like taking a horse pill!
Macro Mondays - Medications
I don't take any medical prescription medications, but I do take several supplements and vitamins. So, if they can be included this is my daily B12 😊

A Strepsils lozenge on top of a blister strip. If you’re wondering about the green-yellow background, it’s a cover of a Lemsip pack — yes, a cold has clearly moved into my household.

Version 2.0 is the second studio album by American rock band Garbage. It was released on May 11, 1998. With this album, the band aimed to improve and expand upon the style of their 1995 eponymous debut rather than reinventing their sound. Lead singer Shirley Manson wrote dark, introspective lyrics, which she felt complemented the songs' melodies.
Building on framework sound and style Garbage established on their debut set, Version 2.0 featured musical references to the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, songs featuring live strings, over 100 recorded tracks, and an interpolation of the Beach Boys and The Pretenders. The band said that the goal of Version 2.0 was to create a "rapprochement between the high-tech and low-down, the now sound and of golden memories." Butch Vig stated that the band did not want to reinvent their sound, as they "felt that we had carved our own turf on the first record and we wanted to take everything we did and make it better".
While Garbage had lyrical input from all band members, Manson was responsible for all the lyrics in Version 2.0.[5] Consequently, it was described by Manson as "more direct and more personal than the first. I was able to verbalize things a little clearer this time—I mean, I'm no Nick Cave, I'm never gonna be Bob Dylan. I do what I can to express myself."[4] The singer "tried to let the darker undercurrents come through to offset some of the pop melodies", adding that "like human beings, songs shouldn't be one-dimensional"

Happy 25th anniversary, Version 2.0!
"...Somebody get me out of here
I'm tearing at myself
I've got to make a point these days
To extricate myself
Somebody get me out of here
I'm tearing at myself
Nobody gives a damn about me
Or anybody else
And still you call me co-dependent
Somehow you lay the blame on me"

Sometimes you can't avoid big pharma I suppose, but I like to try. This little lot is almost ready to go in an infusion. See if you can spot all of the following: Fennel seeds (digestion), dried Beetroot and Echinacea tea, dried St. John's wort (mood), Cardamom, Lovage (just tastes good, but was once thought an aphrodisiac), Ginger (digestion), fresh Tumeric and a little green tea (anti inflammatory). Did you find them all? HMM
For the Macro Mondays theme Redux 2019 where we could select any of the themes that had been used all year, I chose "White on White". I shot six prescription medication tablets which are roughly the size of an aspirin.
HMM! And see you next year.
I felt obligated to choose these lozenges by "Fisherman's Friends" as my subject for Macro Mondays theme this week, "medications." I have had THE cough for the past week and nothing has helped. A friend told me about these lozenges for cough and sore throat and they were true heroes in providing relief. They look like cookies up close but each lozenge is about 3/4".

I wanted to highlight the pattern on the foil packet as well as the design on the tablet itself (which reminds me of the Ankhs religious symbol).
Not been on flickr much over the holiday period so will try to catch up with all your wonderful photos, but it might take a while. Wishing my Flickr friends a happy and healthy 2026 and HMM. Really appreciate your comments and favourites as always.
