Gold medal winner! A postbox in the coastal town of Lymington, Hampshire painted gold in honour of Ben Ainslie, gold medal winner in the London 2012 Olympic Games - Sailing Finn - Men's Heavyweight Dinghy. The plaque also displays the dedication in brail.
As most of us are probably watching and enjoying the games from Rio 2016, I thought this was quite apt for the group 116 pictures in 2016 - mailbox or postbox
65. Mailbox / Postbox
FYI on this '2nd' gold postbox dedicated to Ben Ainslie
I read all about the campaign to get the Royal Mail to paint this one in Lymington, on the basis that Ainslie was a long time resident of the town. One resident took it upon himself to paint it gold and ended up in court but all charges dropped because of the campaign and Royal Mail did a u-turn and re-painted this one gold too. R.M had originally only painted a postbox in Cornwall, where Ainslie grew up. The lucky chap has two gold postboxes dedicated to him :))
This is the Gold Medal rose bush at the farm, with a fading Apricot Candy blossom in the background. They both smell very good.
This is the Monte Cassino Commemorative Cross awarded to my father. This medal was awarded to all Polish II Corps soldiers who fought in the battle of Monte Cassino in Italy during May 1944. The serial number on the reverse of this medal (14041) confirms he was in the 11th Signals Battalion. The medal was photographed suspended against a background sheet of brushed stainless steel. Several LED torch lights were used to create the colours and highlights.
Many thanks for all views, fav's - and particularly comments - all are greatly appreciated!
Happy Macro Mondays to you all!
Minneapolis river front, museum in the remains of the Gold Medal Flour mill that exploded , burned and the rebirth of the river front with a blend of urban adaptive reuse and new architecture
Here's the Gold Medal rose bush at the farm. Some of the blossoms have been affected by insects, but these are doing alright.
Race medal with stars and the old "aluminum foil bokeh" trick.
Just under 2" across from the far edge of the H to the far edge of the A.
The new Gold Medal rose bush was droopy when I arrived at the farm today, as it needed water. Its petals are still saggy in this photo.

Another slide show result of Swiss artist Gerry Hofstetter.
This spectacular show was seen by only a few and I saw only a couple of people taking photos so I thought I'd post a second one. There were over a dozen slides shown on the elevators depicting Minnesota's grain and General Mills history.
According to the artist's publicist, Sara Sterling;
"Gold Medal flour, its workers, machinery and the Milling district of Minneapolis were highlighted by Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter.
Minnesota was added to the "light Art Grand Tour USA"
The artist travels the world "transforming monuments and landscapes into light art sculptures for a short moment in time as a way to highlight their history and importance to the world"
The light show also illuminates the friendship between Switzerland and the United States.
For Macro Mondays Less Than An Inch theme.

By November 16, 1944, Andrew Miller was serving as a staff sergeant in an infantry regiment. On that day, at Woippy, France, he singlehandedly captured two German machine-gun positions. The next day, outside of Metz, he stayed behind while his platoon withdrew and then destroyed another enemy machine-gun nest. He again distinguished himself in Metz from November 19 to November 21, when he led his men in the capture of dozens of Germans and disabled two more enemy machine guns. He was killed eight days later on November 29 while leading his squad in a fight with German forces outside of Hemmersdorf, Germany. For this series of actions, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on September 1, 1945. Miller remains rest at the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in Saint-Avold, France.

The Campbell Soup Company won a gold medal at The Exposition Universelle of 1900, a world’s fair held in Paris.
They added the Paris award to their advertisements, and made it a central feature on their soup labels.
Here is the award from a 10-3/4 oz can of Tomato Soup, and on little toy can of soup.
The Exposition organizers handed out 43,763 awards, 8,889 of them gold medals, so you know its got to be “Mm! Mm! Good!”
While visiting CO, I discovered that Pueblo Colorado has the unique distinction as the city of heroes. The small town of Pueblo has produced more Medal of Honor heroes (Qty4) than any other city in America.
Het uiteindelijke resultaat. 1000 exemplaren gemaakt. 708 zijn er uitgereikt afgelopen zondag. Echt leuk om mijn tekening zo vaak terug te zien om de hals van trotse eigenaren!
The actual medal from which 1000 copies were made.
708 people made it to the finish line and have it in their prize cabinet! So cool to see so many proud owners walk around with my drawing around their neck ;-)
