This memorial statue to James Watt, mechanical engineer and inventor, was erected at the site of his birthplace in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. The original building has been replaced. He was born here in 1736 and died in Birmingham in 1819.
Watt is shown holding his steam engine indicator. See the 2009 publication by David Philip Miller: James Watt, Chemist: Understanding the Origins of the Steam Age. Thanks to Dr RGW Anderson for providing this information.
