This picture is for the group Happy Caturday and this week the theme is "Meaning of Life".
For Elijah the meaning of life is his squirrel on a string. He absolutely loves this toy. He has several Skinneeez animals but this one is a favorite. This one is on a string which is attached to a stick. He loves to drag it through the house and always lays next to it on the floor.
I think that the meaning of life for cats is to make their people happy and to laugh, to show and receive love, to be there when we feel down.... simply, being a friend. =^..^=
Young and ungrateful, forever we worried her
never felt so ungrateful until we buried her
stuck in a hateful take-two and can't surmount
Trying to make due without her mount
from cub to a bear
with all the love that was there
survived as a tribe and improved our count
R.I.P. Beloved

Illustrating the meaning of life. According to Belz Pascal's description, life is a frightening anticipation of death
A small gift and a conundrum for all the fellows photographers who will enjoy it.
I have been using an app on my Android smartphone for the last few years - an app called ISS live now, which allow me to watch the Earth from one of the cameras of the International Space Station, following its motion above us. One can take photographs or videos of our precious, beautiful mother planet from space. While I am never tired of watching and daydreaming from such a privileged point of view, I tried to take some shots some years ago, capturing the stunning beauty of a sunrise from space. This is the best shot of that small series, sporting the diamond of the rising sun at the horizon and showing how thin and fragile our all-important atmosphere is.
Now for the conundrum: may I call this one a photo of mine? May I count it as a work of mine? Contrary to my habit of processing my photos, this one is SOOC - not even cropped.
Hope that you enjoy this, both the photo and the attached conundrum... Have a nice Sunday and remind that every day, even the darkest one, may have a little miracle in store for you.
HAPPY SLIDERS SUNDAY !!
Sliding - I slid heavily to bring out the texture in thIs stucco wall.
PLUS I turned it from boring white to a shiny light blue to
attract your attention.
If you are reading, I succeeded.😋
MY "IMessAGE":
I think weed seeds have more hubris (self confidence) than almost any other living thing.
They will give life a go in what appear to be extremely unpromising places.
For example, as here - "up against the wall" -- our stock phrase to express desperation.
LIfe's fundamental goal is to reproduce itself.
This weed seed (or maybe it's TWO !!) has rapidly grown improbably tall and put forth flowers.
Seeds will follow.
If we see the fundamental goal as a priority, we would all seek to live lives--in our own
time scales--that are as quickly successful as these one or two weeds. Note that they are
also setting an example for a tiny adjacent late-bloomer! 😋

Today I made a fragrant sachet from some of our dried lavender plants and recently purchased trims, applied to a recycled white scarf and a patch of luscious wool from a vacation in Maine.
Will be sending this off to my oldest living childhood friend in Pennsylvania with birthday wishes and appreciation for our 68 years of staying in touch!
Interesting concept:
"The meaning of life is not to be discovered only after death
in some hidden, mysterious realm;
on the contrary,
it can be found by eating the succulent fruit of the Tree of Life
and by living in the here and now
as fully and creatively as we can."
~Paul Kurtz~
(I wonder how Mr, Kurtz can be so sure of this! Definitely something to ponder! Whatever, I do try to live fully and creatively in the here and now!)
I do know that my sister's dearest friend, who passed away only last week, was guiding me through the garden yesterday with serendipitous inspirations! As I placed a gorgeous pink hydrangea next to our flamingo, I had NO idea Janet was crazy about such whimsical garden sculptures! My sister was in disbelief when I forwarded a pic to her, along with an amazing poem on Flamingo Spirit!

A gorilla at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park appears to be contemplating the meaning of life in a few blades of grass.
There’s a quiet ache that lives in all of us - a longing not just to be seen, but to be known. It’s the ache of walking through the world with stories tucked behind our ribs, hoping someone might ask the kind of question that unlocks them. It’s the ache of laughter that almost covers the loneliness, of strength that hides the softness we wish someone would touch gently.
And then there’s the awe.
The awe of connection. Of finding someone who doesn’t flinch at our truth. Who hears the tremble in our voice and leans in, not away. It’s the awe of shared silence, of glances that say more than words, of feeling like we belong - not because we’re perfect, but because we’re real.
To be alive is to carry both: the ache of isolation and the awe of intimacy. We crave closeness not just for comfort, but because it reminds us we’re not alone in our wondering. That someone else is out there, navigating the same questions, feeling the same pull toward meaning.
Intimate connection isn’t just romance or friendship - it’s the sacred exchange of presence. It’s saying, I see you, and hearing, I’m still here. It’s the moment when the ache softens and the awe expands, and we realize that maybe, just maybe, we’re building something beautiful together.

Of course, one of the main legitimate functions of thought has always been to help provide security, guaranteeing shelter and food for instance. However, this function went wrong when the principal source of insecurity came to be the operation of thought itself. (- David Bohm)
So here we all are, still in our matrix that we expereince as our "own" life, limited to 3 dimensions, lending parts of the same energy. Are we not the same?

Life comes and goes quickly, be kind to all, do the best you can, take yourself and your dogs and kids for walks, enjoy nature. Give back to charity. Look up at the stars. Breath deep. Laugh, weep and close your eyes and remember a sweet moment. Blessings.

The Khor Virap - Խոր Վիրապ, meaning deep pit or "deep well" is an Armenian Apostolic Church monastery located in the Ararat plain in Armenia, near the border with Turkey, about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of Artashat, Ararat Province. The monastery was host to a theological seminary and was the residence of Armenian Catholicos.
If there is a single place/shot I have seen and wanted to see with my own eyes in Armenia, it must be the Khor Virap Monastery standing in front of biblical Mt. Ararat. To get this shot I had to visit this place 3 times and even the 3rd time I had to wait for some time to get this wonderful light. Travel photography is fun, however not always rewarding with the best light the first time you visit the location, however when you have the luxury of time and have a chance to come back thanks to proper planning, you might be rewarded with shot like this (Although Mt. Ararat is still partly hiding behind those clouds).

Noravank - Նորավանք - meaning "New Monastery" s a 13th century Armenian Apostolic Church monastery, located 122 km from Yerevan in a narrow gorge made by the Amaghu river, nearby the city of Yeghegnadzor, Armenia. The gorge is known for its tall, sheer, brick-red cliffs, directly across from the monastery. The monastery is best known for its two-storey S. Astvatsatsin church, which grants access to the second floor by way of narrow stones jutting out from the face of building. The monastery is sometimes called Amaghu-Noravank, Amaghu being the name of a small recently destroyed village above the canyon, in order to distinguish it from Bgheno-Noravank, near Goris.
Yet one more place that firstly welcomed me with lot and lot of rain. I waited there for 2 hours to see if the rain stop, but it didnt. I decided that this place can be visited again on my way back to Yerevan as it is definitely worth it. When I was approaching the following time, I had the most amazing and dramatic light - strong, late afternoon light with heavy, dark, stormy clouds in the back - my favorite combination. The contrast and an amazing surrounding landscape created this stunning shot.... surely the 2nd trip was worth it!

Think I do need a long vacation or sth.. to temporarily escape everything in real life. #meaningOfLife?
It is just a word but for me it is one of the most important things in life. I'm absolutely a freethinker and try as hard as I can that nothing sets limits to my mind and soul. Even if it means to stay alone.
Without my freedom I'm no one, just a walking peace of meat.
Being free for me means being alive.
What would it be like
If we would catch on clearly
There is no meaning...
No meaning of life...
Just born to live... and to die.
Beholding this world...
Light same as shadows...
Always and everywhere,
Flowing yin and yang...
Panta rei panta rhei

Know your Exits
Emerging from the dim light of the underpass, where the city's heartbeat pulses faintly against the cold concrete, everyone seems lost in their thoughts. What paths lay ahead of you? This direction is not just a way out of my place of shadows and echoes but a chance to make an existential choice. Exits in my urban chasm are not merely roads and streets; they are the decisions that define me, the moments of truth where my very being is distilled into action.
As I ponder existence and essence, I question whether freedom of choice is the most authentic expression. My choice carves a path that leads me back to the same variant of existence, and I never seem to leave. What are the invisible threads that connect my choices to a predetermined destiny?
I take a step forward with a deep breath, embracing the uncertainty that ensures my return. Lost in the labyrinthine streets, shadowed alleys, and false exits, I promise myself liberation and self-discovery as I take the next step that could redefine me.

Tbilisi - თბილისი - is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Mt'k'vari (Kura) River. Located strategically at the crossroads between Europe and Asia and lying along the historic Silk Road routes, Tbilisi has often been a point of contention between various rival powers and empires. The history of the city can be seen by its architecture, where the Haussmannized Rustaveli Avenue and downtown are blended with the narrower streets of the medieval Narikala district.
The demographics of the city are diverse and historically it has been home to peoples from diverse cultures, religions and ethnicities. Despite being overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian, Tbilisi is one of the few places in the world (Sarajevo and Paramaribo being others) where a synagogue and a mosque are located next to each other, in the ancient Bath district several hundred metres from the Metekhi Church.

How does it last the blink of an eye? You could measure it, if you really want to, but the truth is that we are so accustomed to blink our eyes that we are almost entirely unaware of the whole thing. Our brain compensates for it. So, in a way, we could say that a blink of an eye has an infinitesimal duration. The amazing thing I was thinking of while processing this fireflies shot - while recalling the actual experience - is that a whole, huge lot of things happen in the blink of an eye. Proteins in our cells are freshly synthetised; old, worn-out proteins are digested and reduced to aminoacids to be recycled; tiny yet powerful molecules of ATP continually bind to enzymes, allowing them to perform their "unlawful" duties at amazing rates; B lymphocytes produce and refine astronomical quantities and varieties of antibodies to fight some intruding pathogen; neurons alternately fire and rest in what we could envisage as, well, an astoundingly complex network of hyperfast fireflies. In the blink of an eye whole universes are born, and whole worlds are destroyed. We are so bound to our perception of time, to our own timescale, that it is utterly difficult for us to imagine what is happening on different timescales. In a mere hour a bacterial colony can proliferate enormously and, sadly, viruses can get huge hordes of self-copies at the expense of an unwittingly complicit cell.
There are further non-human timescales though, well beyond the microscopic word of cells or molecules. It is not by chance that for centuries people have been believing that the world had truly been created in seven days (well, actually six) and that everything - from geology to animals and plants - have remained basically unchanged since then. And that fossils were either remains of antediluvian creatures or tricks of the devil to test our faith and potentially lead us astray.
Well my friends, somehow this photo has reminded me that the world - both the micro- and the macroscopic - is something unutterably complex, almost beyond our grasp (almost being the key of everything). The quest for its understanding is a collective, neverending adventure. I often feel so small that even these fireflies, with their wonders, humble the feeling of being part of the species who believe to be master of the world. My mind is a minute firefly lost in a vast expanse of darkness. Yet I cannot give up. We cannot give up, since we "were not made to live [our] lives as brutes, / but to be followers of worth and knowledge" (Divine Comedy, Inferno, 26). Maybe our lives are the blink of an eye in the unutterable spatial and temporal vastness of the universe. But they are well worth living.
It has always been one of my unfulfilled dreams to photograph fireflies, which, sadly, are becoming a rarity in our countryside; the positive effects of the lockdown for the environment have probably favoured a blooming this year, so I decided to have a try. I followed the advices of a master of fireflies photography, the Bulgarian photographer Hristo Svinarov. However I will eagerly accept hints and positive criticism from everyone who will be so kind to offer it.
In my second fireflies session I have become a little more confident in my possibilities. I have tried to lower the ISO below 1000, and this is by itself a huge step towards better photos; moreover I have somehow dared more in composition. I am forced to use my Samyang 14 mm, which is the only fast-aperture lens I have in my gear, so I ventured nearer and nearer, until I was literally surrounded by dancing fireflies.
I have stacked 15 5-second photos with the Gimp. As the basic layer I used an image I have obtained by averaging the photos with John Paul ChaCha's Chasys Draw IES Artist: the fireflies themselves were almost obliterated but the landscape were effectively denoised, while the details were improved. In this photo I have processed separately the image which would have been the basic layer, just in the same way as any other photo - luminosity masks, and so on. When I was satisfied with the landscape I faced a new problem: it was just like I wanted it to be, so the 15 layers to be blended (those actually containing the fireflies) should not alter it - they should only add the precious fireflies. After a good bit of trial and error I developed my own workflow: a) duplicate one of the fireflies layers; b) extract LAB L component; c) in the bw image so obtained play with levels to force all the dark tones to black, then lower the light tones slider to better the fireflies signal; d) manually paint out the sky and the trees, and the other unwanted parts still visible (e.g. the water in the ditch); e) use this image showing only the fireflies as the layer mask of the original photo; f) set the blending mode to Addition: at this point the fireflies appear in the scene; g) duplicate 4 times the layer and then merge down the copies to get only one layer with the fireflies signal very naturally amplified; h) proceed in this way for all the (gasp) 15 shots; i) after all this, you can inspect the contribution of every layer to the result and, if needed, you can duplicate it and blend with Addition or Dodge to amplify it.
