Onboard delights & with a flight time of just over 30 minutes, this is serious fast food.

Lufthansa's menu has recently been upgraded under the "Tasting Heimat " brand, heimat meaning home/ homeland.

Menu's come from locally sourced suppliers from the Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Leipzig area's, the selection above was from Berlin.

All the meals were created exclusively for Lufthansa by young star chefs Julia Komp and Dennis Puchert and the gategroup culinary team.

On today's short flight, the meal above was wholemeal spelt bread with egg slices & vegetable dip, accompanied by beef patty, cream cheese & msutard. Finished off with vanila flavoured mascarpone on red fruit compote with pears & apples.

Lufthansa began operating its new Boeing 787-9 on short haul flights between Frankfurt & Munich for crew training purposes on Wednesday 19th October 2022.

The first aircraft, D-ABPA "Piper Alpha " arrived in Frankfurt, Germany in late August 2022 & completed some cabin changes from its original Hainan specifications where the plane was originally destined. The first of 32 #Dreamliners Lufthansa

Selected flights between October 19th to October 31st 2022 will operate between FRA & MUN, up to three rotations, LH96/ 101, then 106/111 & 114/119, a big upgrade from the usual A320.

Following these few weeks of domestic flights, the "Berlin" will be introduced on long-haul services to New York (Newark) beginning 1st December 2022.

The #Lufthansa 787-9 is configured with 26 business class, 21 premium economy & 247 in economy.

Boeing beef pastrami salad, with caesar ponzu dressing ( of course ) onboard the Lufthansa Boeing 747-800.

Described as a light lunch on the two hour flight, featuring the new "Heimat " enhanced onboard catering, local foods from different regions of Germany.

Seen during an amazing experience on a one off flight from Frankfurt to Palma by Lufthansa to add capacity at the start of the Easter holidays 2022.

Thanks very much to the very friendly & helpful crew on LH 1158 for making the flight memorable.

these flights were operated by D-AIXL.

Lufthansa & apples havent been the sweetest of things lately.

Neither the one you can eat, nor the one you tag on your baggage have received good press on social media.

The real one, as part of the "tasting heimat " revamp has been much derided by frequent flies who have described the handing out of these apples after the main meal as a hygene issue. Then there's the Apple airtags, booming in sales recently with all the lost & delayed hold baggage, Lufthansa banning them from their flights because of bluetooth signals affecting aircraft communications.

Nevertheless, this one is....ready to eat.

Fish & chips on a ferry

Blue Star Ferries operating the twice daily Rosslare to Pembroke service on behalf of Irish Ferries, plenty on the menu but it had to be something fishy, like this cod & ships, I mean chips, with some healthy vegetables.

Burnham Industrial School was opened by the Government in 1874 in order to provide both for the welfare of destitute and neglected children, and also for the reformation of what were considered criminal children.

Those destitute were often boarded out to foster parents, in order that they be provided with a home environment, while others were taken into service. In 1901, the institution became purely a reformatory, and many non-delinquent children who had been housed there were sent on to Caversham Industrial School, Dunedin.

Industrial Schools' Nominal Rolls are held at our Wellington office. The images here are of the building and grounds, and the timetable and meal plan of 1874.

I didn't have a meal plan this semester at college. So, as a result, I had to learn to cook. Before this year, I had never even cooked pasta or turned an oven on.

Look at me now.

I started slow, with baby steps. First I started with my strong suit: eggs. Then I started making fancier breakfasts on the stove, the only cooking technology I was comfortable with besides the microwave.

Slowly, I began to use an oven.

Then I even cooked meat.

Now, this is the first time I made baked goods. I was cooking lemon sugar cookies with lemon cream cheese icing. I added some coconut for my own touch. I found the recipe on Pinterest, but you can find the recipe here: luluthebaker.blogspot.com/2010/02/lemon-sugar-cookies-wit...

Happy baking!

And if you haven't done anything like this before, go on - try it! It only took me 19 years to start, but now cooking/baking is one of my favorite hobbies! The best part is, because I've been so deprived of this art, it's fun to try something completely new every time I make something. It doesn't get boring.

I made up a Moroccan Spice blend for my mom to use in some recipes I put on her "weight loss" meal plan this month. It's pretty darn tasty on it's own, IMHO, and it will be a major winner in the pilaf, salmon and cod recipes too!

Here's the recipe:

2 tbsp ground coriander

2 tbsp cumin

1 tbsp smoked paprika

2 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp turmeric

1 tbsp ground ginger

1 tsp cayenne

2 tbsp granulated raw or brown sugar

2 tsp coarse sea salt

2 tsp cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg

1 tsp crushed cardamom

1 tsp crushed anise
