West Midlands Travel "TImesaver"
In the late 1980's West Midlands Travel introduced these between major towns and cities in the area in order to provide a limited stop facility and take advantage of dual carriageways which normal routes avoided.

Ribble's full-fronted Leyland PD3s were for many the equivalent of the illustrious Southdown Queen Marys. Like the latter they progressed through two distinct styles of bodywork, in Ribble's case first by Burlingham and then by MCW.
Whilst a few did find second homes, they didn't seem to enjoy the extended after lives of their southern cousins. I only recall one in the north-east, Lockey's Burlingham-bodied KCK 880 (which you can see mascarading as a Confidence of Leicester bus elsewhere in this Flickr collection). The fictional image depicts one of the later MCW-bodied examples, which would have been equally at home in Lockey's fleet (05-May-10).
