My friend and fellow motorhead at work owns this Generation 1 (2007-2009) Mazdaspeed 3. Because a lot of people were working from home during the Covid-19 response protocol at that time, the parking lot was quite open, allowing a pretty good shot of his car.
He himself bought the car from another employee at this location who was leaving the US when she received a promotion to the company headquarters office overseas.
I love taking photos on a foggy night! This is a photo of my car at a Shell gas station down the street from my house, inspired by the movie in the title. I think the guy working at the gas station might have called the cops on me because a couple officers in a cop car drove towards me as I was walking back to my car and asked me what I was doing. I told 'em I was taking photos "for a class", so they wouldn't ask me any questions.
It's finally here! The 1991 Mazda 787B with the number 55 Mazdaspeed livery. I have wanted to build this car for a very long time but after many failed attempts I am very proud of this result. And every piece is attached to the car, which is always a big plus, and a big challenge.

So much wrong with this pic, high iso noise, slanted background, not aligning dead straight, forgot to shoot in raw... whatever. It was just fun using the wide lens again.
Rear shot. Not too happy about the blown out area of the sky, but whatever.
Again,
Huge thanks to my good friend Ryan Meloy for letting me use all his equipment to shoot this weekend!
1D Mark III FTW!

My friend and fellow motorhead at my former work place owns this Generation 1 (2007-2009) Mazdaspeed 3. Because a lot of people were working from home during the Covid-19 response protocol at that time, the parking lot was quite open, allowing a pretty good shot of his car.

Found a new location yesterday and grabbed some shots of the Mazda while I was there.
Strobist info: Lit with one Alienbee B800 with a beauty dish. Strobe was moved in multiple shots and merged in Photoshop.
Got plane tickets to fly back home to Florida in a couple of weeks. I am really looking forward to shooting the RX-7 and RX-8, so I decided to play around with some of the shots I took last time I was down.

Since last time, I got a new BlackBerry, added an iPhone, upgraded my Flash Memory keychain, gone back to my digital watch, started carrying a fountain pen again, and got a new wallet.
Starting from the left, we have my Casio G-Shock (Used to wear it only once a week, but wear it nearly every day now just in case I ever run into John Gruber.), James Avery "i-" cross pendant on a silver chain, BlackBerry Curve 8330 with BlackBerry Curve Leather Swivel Holster (Company issued phone. Has 3G & GPS, both of which are wasted on me since it's used exclusively for work e-mail and calendar. The iPhone gets used for everything else. I even went so far as to remove every app I could from the Curve since I have the iPhone now.), Apple iPhone 3G (16GB White) with Case-Mate Signature Series Leather Case, Peppermint VOJO caffeinated energy mints (They've changed the container design a couple of times since last time. I want the old case with the mirror bottom lid back. The latest case has a tiny hole in the top and it's a pain to get the mints out now.), University of Texas class ring, wedding ring, Lamy Safari Vista Fountain Pen (Extra-Fine) with Lamy Fountain Pen Z 24 Converter with Noodler's SwishMix Waterproof Bottled Fountain Pen Ink (a very nice writing pen that won't leave me depressed if I lose it, which was the case with the multiple vintage Parker 51 pens I've carried and lost in the past. The ink I'm using is wicked good, dark as night and permanent as a bad nickname.), Paul Smith glasses, key to my Mazdaspeed 3 with "No Fear" rod and piston key chain, all my other keys as well as my 4GB Cruzer and Texas Exes Life Member key chain, Spyderco knife (The friend whose wedding I get this from...or his wife, actually, is about to have his first kid.), and my black leather Tumi Meridian Gusseted Card Case with ID.

This Mazda 737C, fitted with 2-rotor Wankel engine, came third in its class at Le Mans in 1985.
In 1984 four Wankel-engined Mazda 727Cs were entered in Group C2 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. One of them won its class, while a second 727C took third place. It was a very significant victory in more ways than one. Firstly, the Wankel engine technology was unique, and secondly, it was a first victory for a Japanese make at Le Mans.
The following year, Mazda entered two new type 737C cars, fitted with 2-rotor Wankel engines and with a cylinder capacity of two times 650 cc. Mazda’s in-house car tuning arm Mazdaspeed was responsible for the development of the engine.
For the 1991 season Mazda was the overall winner with type 787B, fitted with a 4-rotor Wankel engine.

I combined a photo shoot of this rare Mazdaspeed MX5 with a tutorial on how to take the shots, and edit them with Photoshop – here’s one result

The shot is made up of a couple of exposures with the CPL turned to cut down the reflections, and a 3rd exposure has a strobe light to the front wheel.
