Max the Alaskan brown bear, is the newest resident of Montana Grizzly Encounter, bear rescue, sanctuary, and education center, Bozeman, Montana,.
Max was found without his mother on Unimak Island, Alaska, and brought to Montana in May of 2019 as a very small, frightened cub. By mid-August, he weighed in at just over 100 lbs. As of May 2022, he weights just about 900 lbs. and stands more than 7 feet tall, though he still plays like a silly cub.
He's developed the most beautiful coppery-golden coat I've ever seen. He positively glows in the sunshine, especially when he's just out of one his play pools..
Montana Grizzly Encounter, of Bozeman, Montana, is a fine sanctuary for grizzlies that can't be released to the wild like Max, whom humans could never teach the ways of life on his own in the wild. They are also a first rate educational center, open to the public on a schedule that varies by season. Max and the three other bears at MGE are very much worth a visit. Check out MGE's website for more information: grizzlyencounter.org/

They are looking at Max Beckmanns' self portrait. He said in his of his work: "My paintings are a medicine through inurement and delight. They really are somewhat heroic. You should not use my art like a easy chair, but like a breath of fresh air."
