Oh boy, they're watching. Now I've got to nail this landing.
A pair on male Acorn Woodpeckers appear to be judging the other's landing. The one in the middle could likely be studying his techniques as he is only about a week out of the nest. The best way (other than awkwardness) to distinguish an immature one is the blue eyes. Only when they reach maturity do they develop their iconic bright yellow eyes.

The immature "egg"- shape of the common Stinkhorn (Phallus impudicus, or in Dutch "stinkzwam").
I wanted to follow the whole growth proces of the Stinkhorn, but then, unfortunately, we had some forst during the night, so now it is gone....... maybe next year....
"Species of stinkhorns have gasteroid, or internally produced spores. Fruit bodies originate as a gelatinous, spherical, or egg-shaped structure that may be completely or partially buried underground. The peridium, the outer layer of the egg, is white, or purple/red, with two or three layers. The outer layer is thin, membranous, and elastic, while the inner layer is thicker, gelatinous, and continuous. At maturity, the peridium opens up and remains as a volva at the base of the receptaculum." -WiKi
A common resident bird of our state and probably in South India. They are hard to miss and occasionally even make their appearance inside our own housing area.
One of the unique things about this bird is that it grows a foot long tail after reaching sexual maturity and that it changes from Rufous brown to fully white morph. The phase that it changes from Rufous to White is called the Transition Morph and this was my first sighting of such morph. I found it very beautiful in this morph. The whole body including the tail turns white and its a delight to watch it fly around. The forest area we visited had close to a dozen of these pretty much everywhere.

A beautiful and colorful Swallow resident in the country, but migratory in our city and the birding spots around us.
The bird is easy to spot due to the metallic blue plumage while the other swallows we have here sport a dark brown blackish plumage. These are social birds like other swallows and always seen in a small flock.
The biggest attractive feature is the tail - which is just like a wire. These grow long and indicate the sexual maturity of the bird - the longer the better. I believe this bird in the picture doesn't have a very long tail since I saw longer tails in this species. Both males and females sport a tail, but female tails are much shorter.

The vervet monkey (Chlorocebus pygerythrus), or simply vervet, is an Old World monkey of the family Cercopithecidae native to Africa. The term "vervet" is also used to refer to all the members of the genus Chlorocebus.
The five distinct subspecies can be found mostly throughout Southern Africa, as well as some of the eastern countries. These mostly herbivorous monkeys have black faces and grey body hair color, ranging in length from about 50 centimetres (20 in) for males to about 40 centimetres (16 in) for females.
In addition to very interesting behavioral research on natural populations, vervet monkeys serve as a nonhuman primate model for understanding genetic and social behaviors of humans. They have been noted for having human-like characteristics, such as hypertension and anxiety. Vervets live in social groups ranging from 10 to 70 individuals, with males changing groups at the time of sexual maturity.

Kestrel - Falco tinnunculus (Juveniles)
The common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) is a bird of prey species belonging to the kestrel group of the falcon family Falconidae. It is also known as the European kestrel, Eurasian kestrel, or Old World kestrel. In Britain, where no other kestrel species occurs, it is generally just called "the kestrel".
This species occurs over a large range. It is widespread in Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as occasionally reaching the east coast of North America.
Kestrels can hover in still air, even indoors in barns. Because they face towards any slight wind when hovering, the common kestrel is called a "windhover" in some areas.
Unusual for falcons, plumage often differs between male and female, although as is usual with monogamous raptors the female is slightly larger than the male. This allows a pair to fill different feeding niches over their home range. Kestrels are bold and have adapted well to human encroachment, nesting in buildings and hunting by major roads. Kestrels do not build their own nests, but use nests built by other species.
Their plumage is mainly light chestnut brown with blackish spots on the upperside and buff with narrow blackish streaks on the underside; the remiges are also blackish. Unlike most raptors, they display sexual colour dimorphism with the male having fewer black spots and streaks, as well as a blue-grey cap and tail. The tail is brown with black bars in females, and has a black tip with a narrow white rim in both sexes. All common kestrels have a prominent black malar stripe like their closest relatives.
The cere, feet, and a narrow ring around the eye are bright yellow; the toenails, bill and iris are dark. Juveniles look like adult females, but the underside streaks are wider; the yellow of their bare parts is paler. Hatchlings are covered in white down feathers, changing to a buff-grey second down coat before they grow their first true plumage.
Data from Britain shows nesting pairs bringing up about 2–3 chicks on average, though this includes a considerable rate of total brood failures; actually, few pairs that do manage to fledge offspring raise less than 3 or 4. Compared to their siblings, first-hatched chicks have greater survival and recruitment probability, thought to be due to the first-hatched chicks obtaining a higher body condition when in the nest. Population cycles of prey, particularly voles, have a considerable influence on breeding success. Most common kestrels die before they reach 2 years of age; mortality up until the first birthday may be as high as 70%. At least females generally breed at one year of age; possibly, some males take a year longer to maturity as they do in related species. The biological lifespan to death from senescence can be 16 years or more, however; one was recorded to have lived almost 24 years.

Male Reticulated Giraffe seen in Laikipia in northern Kenya 2 months ago.
Below you find some background information on giraffe horns and this male having a third horn. Copied from the website of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation:
"Giraffe possess distinctive bony protrusions on their heads called ossicones, not horns. These ossicones are covered in furred skin, and both male and female giraffe have them.
Giraffe calves are born with ossicones, but these small boney cores surrounded by cartilage lie flat and unattached to the skull to prevent injury during birth. Shortly after, the ossicones begin to grow and ossify, transforming from cartilage to bone. This is called ossification. By the time giraffe reach sexual maturity, usually between 3-5 years, their ossicones are fully composed of bone and firmly attached to the skull.
Both male and female giraffe have a primary pair of ossicones on top of their heads. Female ossicones tend to be thin and often have tufts of hair, while male ossicones are generally thicker and often become bald on top due to frequent necking behavior.
In some giraffe species, particularly males, a second pair of ossicones may grow behind the first pair on the back of the skull, along with a prominent median ossicone on the forehead. The size of this median ossicone varies across species, with the northern and reticulated giraffe having considerably larger median ossicones compared to the Masai and southern giraffe. This variation serves as a key morphological feature for distinguishing between giraffe species.
Male giraffe regularly engage in necking contests to ascertain dominance using their ossicones. The bones of the ossicones and skull accumulate boney deposits or ossifications over time, increasing their weight. This allows them to deliver more powerful blows during necking contests. While fatal combat is rare, it can occur. "

The Reticulated Giraffe is one of the northern Kenya specialties just like the previously posted Grévy's Zebra, the Striped Hyena and the Vulturine Guineafowl.
It is the tallest of all the Giraffe subspecies.
Some scientific authorities propose that some of these subspecies are elevated to species level and on 23 August the IUCN has recognized that there are now 4 different giraffe species.

The American flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) is a large species of flamingo closely related to the greater flamingo and Chilean flamingo. It was formerly considered conspecific with the greater flamingo, but that treatment is now widely viewed (e.g. by the American and British Ornithologists' Unions) as incorrect due to a lack of evidence. It is also known as the Caribbean flamingo, although it is also present in the Galápagos Islands. It is the only flamingo that naturally inhabits North America. Raven - Corvus corax
The common raven (Corvus corax), also known as the northern raven, is a large all-black passerine bird. Found across the Northern Hemisphere, it is the most widely distributed of all corvids. Some notable feats of problem-solving provide evidence that the common raven is unusually intelligent. Over the centuries, it has been the subject of mythology, folklore, art, and literature. In many cultures, including the indigenous cultures of Scandinavia, ancient Ireland and Wales, Bhutan, the northwest coast of North America, and Siberia and northeast Asia, the common raven has been revered as a spiritual figure or godlike creature.
