Also referred to as “The Quiraing” or “Cuith-Raing’” is a landslip on the eastern face of Meall na Suiramach, the northernmost summit of the Trotternish or Tròndairnis (Scottish Gaelic) on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. ..Taken in dramatic December weather, the stormy ephemeral light opens and beams of short lived godrays radiate down over distant hills.

Upper Tahquamenon Falls in Fall Color. Tahquamenon Falls State Park encompasses close to 50,000 acres stretching over 13 miles. Most of this is undeveloped woodland without roads, buildings or power lines. The centerpiece of the park, and the very reason for its existence, is the Tahquamenon River with its waterfalls. The Upper Falls is one the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. It has a drop of nearly 50 feet and is more than 200 feet across. A maximum flow of more than 50,000 gallons of water per second has been recorded cascading over these falls. Four miles downstream is the Lower Falls, a series of five smaller falls cascading around an island.
Surrounded by the silhouettes of the ancient Porcupine Mountains, the Lake of the Clouds is a blue gem amid the thick forests. The Lake of the Clouds is perhaps the most photographic feature in the Porcupine Mountains region. No matter what the season, it is a truly breathtaking sight to behold. The best view of the lake and the surrounding hills is from an easily accessible boardwalk just off 107th Engineers Memorial Highway. The Lake of the Clouds Scenic Area is located in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.

Taken in dramatic December weather, the stormy ephemeral light opens and beams of short lived godrays radiate down over the spiked land formation called The Cleat, Loch Cleat, and Loch Leum na Luirginn below. The highest ridge to the right is called Dun Dubh, and the interesting craggy dinosaur back - shark fin formation on the lower right is called Cnoc a Mheirlich.

A meandering creek leads through mossy lined bluffs. The fall colors creating a warm glowing canopy. Floating autumn leaves and reflection of trees in the water. Hidden amongst the farm and prairie fields of Central Wisconsin is a bit of a peculiar anomaly. There lies a 40â deep natural gorge that looks as though it belongs in the Pacific Northwest. Steep mossy sides with slow moving pools littered with fall foliage. The currents create rhythmic eddyâs within the scenic canyon. A fall day such as this brings an amazing palette of colors below the warm canopy. Baraboo, Wisconsin

A long exposure captures Eilean Donan Castle in dramatic light; one of the most recognized castles in Scotland. It is a Scottish icon, and certainly one of the most popular visitor attractions in the Highlands. Strategically located on its own little island, overlooking the Isle of Skye, at the point where three great sea-lochs meet, and surrounded by the majestic splendor of the forested mountains of Kintail, Eilean. Eilean Donan, which means simply "island of Donnán", is named after Donnán of Eigg, a Celtic saint martyred in 617. Donnán is said to have established a church on the island, though no trace of this remains. The castle was founded in the thirteenth century, and became a stronghold of the Clan Mackenzie and their allies the Clan Macrae. In the early eighteenth century, the Mackenzies' involvement in the Jacobite rebellions led in 1719 to the castle's destruction by government ships. Lieutenant-Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap's twentieth-century reconstruction of the ruins produced the present buildings.

A majestic hot air balloon soars over the spectacular moody atmosphere of the Mountains of Loch na h-Achlaise. The tranquil water of the loch reflects the distant mountains, islands of trees, and foreground rocks in perfect symmetry. .Lochan na h-Achlaise is a lake in Rannoch Moor - Scottish Highlands and is nearby to Black Mount, Achallader, and Stob a' Choire Odhair. Near Glencoe, it’s the gateway to the Scottish Highlands and not only produces some of the most dramatic scenery in the world, but also some of the most changeable weather.

Mesquite dunes of death valley. Curves and patterns captured and constrasted in the fleeting light. Death Valley National Park is located primarily in the Southern California Desert, with a small portion extending into Nevada. Death Valley is one of the hottest places in the world. Air temperatures over 120 °F (49 °C) are common during the summer months of June, July, August and September.

Coasts of Ireland #7 - #Clogher Coastline aka “The Washing Machine”.
Quite possibly my favorite shot from an #Ireland trip, the stunning and rugged Clogher coastline. Below the sea cliffs lie amazing rock formations pounded relentlessly by the ever churning sea. Golden sunset light bathes the formations in a warm glow. The separation of all the different colors this digital back captures is truly astounding. Just wish it wasn’t $40,000+ !

"Muckross Abbey - Tree of Life"
As a professional photographer, I spend countless hours researching future destinations. Locations, cultures, topography, temperature, tide schedules, sun - moon - twilight times, google maps/earth, and much more. Occasionally (and hopefully) you stumble upon unforeseen gems. I had read good things about the Muckross area of Wicklow, Ireland. Walking through the brilliant masonry of the Abbey I could see the majestic tree like a light at the end of a dark tunnel. Breathtakingly perfect and enormous, to the point where I wondered if it was real? The base has a twisted bark pattern that rises 10 meters to an amazing canopy, filling the entire ceiling of the courtyard. The sun positioned to create a nice sunstar between the intersections of the tree and the masonry. One of my favorite photos of the trip.

In Scotland, between “ The River Garry “ and Loch Oich, near the Village of Invergarry is a magical unnamed mossy forest. On this cold December morning a rare event occurred. Cold temperatures, fog, and a high pressure front created perfect conditions for hoar frost to form. Before my very eyes, the forest transformed into a mystical sugar coated delight. You can see the beginnings of the frost coating the tree top canopies, delicately glazing the intricate branches.

The waxing crescent moon rises over frosty rocks near the small settlement of Sligachan, on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The distant peaks, left - Beinn Dearg Mhor, middle - Marsco, right - Sgurr nan Gillean & Bruach na Frithe.
Sligachan is a small settlement on Skye, Scotland. It is close to the Cuillin mountains and provides a good viewpoint for seeing the Black Cuillin mountains. Beinn Dearg Mhor is the middle summit of the group of Red Hills above Sligachan. It has a fine cone-like summit above its vast flanks of scree, and is often climbed with neighbouring Glamaig. Marsco is a peak in the Red Hills on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It lies on the east of Glen Sligachan, and may be climbed from the right-of-way through the glen from Sligachan to Loch Coruisk. Sgùrr nan Gillean is a mountain in the northern section of the Cuillin range on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. With a height of 964 m it is one of eleven Munros on the Cuillin ridge. Bruach na Frìthe is one of the principal summits on the Black Cuillin ridge.
