We went to visit our family in Southend today. The journey takes about 2.5 hours, plus a stop for coffee. We met up at a car park in Leigh-on-Sea, and walked to the restaurant where Gareth had booked a table for us to have lunch. The food was very good, and we were all pretty full afterwards (some puddings were also consumed!). Mike had prepared some maths puzzle sheets for Frankie to do in the down times during lunch, as he's very much into maths and numbers - and he seemed to enjoy doing them.
After lunch, we did the part of the Leigh Art Trail which was near the restaurant, then we drove into Leigh town centre. Mike had a quick snooze in the car while we visited a few more Art Trail sites, including Lolly's exhibition window. Unfortuantely, it chucked it down with rain while we were at that point, but we know how brilliant her work is anyway - I'm pleased to say we have one of her pieces, a stitched picture of our house. After having a brief introduction to the two cats, Mike had another nap back at the house, while I played Brio with Frankie, then we had a game of Monster Catcher together. It was soon time for us to leave, and our journey home wasn't too bad - we didn't stop, and were home by 9.15pm. There were some lovely sunbursts through the clouds on the way, and a rainbow behind us as we turned off to our villages, but sadly, I couldn't capture that!
