The UW Oshkosh Mathematical Problem Solving Contest is designed for motivated students in grades 7-10 who show an affinity for mathematics and mathematical sciences.
The paper recycling bin at the town dump (errr...transfer station. I think thats what it's going by nowadays). This is an endless source of old copies of Look, Aperture, blueprints, pulp novels, 1960's knitting patterns, occasional smut, envelopes..but not when it's too empty to reach the treasures! (I really didn't need any math texts in my life anyhow).
William Sherman, a mathmatics graduate student and teaching assistant for the Department of Mathmatics main passion is research, and he says he spends much time searching for research relevant to his theories. long time ago, I got this set of books with dozens - no, hundreds, easily - patterns to enlarge on a gird. I found one vellum plotter paper copy of a dress I made the girls countless time.
I redrafted it onto bristol board. (Oaktag)
I need to get back to this - it's *so* creative, so mechanical and full of mathmatical rules. Ones you can bend or break, naturally. I really need to do a write up in my blog or something with all the notations I put on the pieces. I never even look at the instructions any more.
