Expanding Your Horizons (EYH), A Hands-On STEM Conference for Middle School Girls and their Parents, held April 20, 2019 in the Jacobs Science Building on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky
This Kmart opened sometime in the 1970s (I think) and closed permanently on Sunday, April 27, 2014, with its liquidation beginning on Sunday, February 9, 2014.
March 14, 2014 (known to many as Pi Day, mathmatically speaking) happened to be the day of my second time checking out the Xenia Kmart's liquidation. As told by the big signs inside, discounts were 20%-40% at least. More shelves were seen completely bare, but if I recall correctly no fixtures had been removed yet.
I have less photos from this visit because I wasn't there as long, but it's definitely better than nothing! (Heck, this isn't even my shortest visit!)

Visual journal of the golden ratio study. I focused on the mathmatical side of the golden ratio, although I did not use that in my project.

Colors represent the number of overlapping vertices in each location of this projective view (red=1, orange=2, etc)
HOWEVER this 16-cube should have ZERO mathmatical overlaps, so all the oranges really are just "near-overlaps" within resolution tolerance.
In this variation of Translation is Dialogue "X-Scape Route : extra-terrestial map of the eternal other"
I decided to be far more literal about the notion of a body dwelling in a spatial – scape. The first piece was more concerned with abstraction, vessel/ objectness, singularity and structure. This is still about abstraction but functional abstraction; an abstraction born from deduction, supposition, speculation…meditation. It is about following the stars beyond the known landscape – transgressing to another world, to another plane of existence. The image is a “plane of Babel” communicating through the use of multiple languages; A map of a place on Earth, a map of a place in the sky which locates us on earth but references a place far beyond.
The title is also a translation play. The composition is born from a contemplation of the Underground railroad in the United States. But without that contextual grounding there are multiple interpretations to the chosen words.
extra-terrestial - the (eternal) other - alien - Blackness - primordial - void - solid
X - the unknown factor in mathmatical equations - the generic - the number 10.

The Concentric Code pieces are organized harmonic forms manifested as street sculptures, the result of an energy interacting with the physical world. The intent of these pieces is to show the visualisation of vibration in complex patterns and forms. Fundamentally the formations are created by the grid consciousness that creates our reality, messages that reflect creation. Creation by sound as reality manifest by sound harmonics.

The artist called this piece "pre-mathmatics" [sic] but that name just doesn't work for me. Some people must have thought I was nuts laying down on the grass for the shot, but this angle was the only way to see it well.
