Vanessa is one of our all time favourite brides who has returned for her maternity shoot. She is always smiling and so radiant that she lights up a room.
Even heavily pregnant she is still walking her dogs regularly and keeping active so I knew I wanted to photograph her away from the studio... a bit of a change from my usual maternity images.

Hi Everyone! These are from my first maternity session. I definitely learnt a lot doing this, but I would love any cc you all have. Thanks!
Did a maternity shoot of a colleague of my girlfriend. First time I tried such a thing but quite pleased with the results - for which I really have to thank the fantastic models. Both the mother-to-be and her husband were happy to try all the ideas I had in mind and very patient. Not unimportant as changing backgrounds and lighting setups made this quite an exhausting (and 3 hour long ...) shoot.
Strobist info: one Nikon SB600 with soft box camera right, one gridded SB600 at low power camera left for hair/shoulderlight.
PP: Lightroom and PS Elements to enlarge the black background.
This is from my recent Maternity Session. It was a wonderful experience and I have already booked a couple more Maternity Clients!
To give a little information on this photograph. The client (Michelle) wanted one of these dark and strong side / back lit photos of her stomach. She was very comfortable and a joy to work with, although we did have to cover a big window in the room we were shooting in to keep the neighbors from getting a "Peep Show". Michelle had one request though, that she could wear her "Favorite" Maternity pants that she had been wearing the most during her pregnancy.
I'm happy to report that Michelle and Melvin had their beautiful daughter Gianna Camille de Simon this past Friday June 11, 2010.
Taken with a 5d Mark II and Sigma 70-200mm f2.8

Lighting:
Key: Canon 430ex II in closed 40" shoot through Umbrella, Camera left and behind and feathered.

My good friend Marci asked me to get some Maternity shots for her right before she was about to have her child. Here is one from the shoot.
I was thinking magazine editorial when I edited this one, but who knows I could be way off!

This was my second maternity session. She was such a doll... I just loved working with both of them. The crazy thing is she's tiny and carrying twins!
This is a 9-image Brenizer portrait/bokehrama of my wife Maiko at 37 weeks. We returned to Sylvan Lake for this portrait - I proposed to her at Sylvan Lake a year and a half ago!
We can't wait to meet our baby girl soon! :)

I'm fine shooting other peoples maternity portraits.
Mi cuerpo,
como tierra agradecida,
se va extendiendo.
Ya las planicies de mi vientre
van cogiendo forma
de una redonda colina palpitante,
mientras por dentro
en quién sabe qué misterio
del agua, sangre y silencio
va creciendo,
como un puño que se abre
el hijo que sembraste
en el centro de mi fertilidad.

My body,
as grateful land,
it is spreading.
Already the plains of my belly
they are taking shape
of a round throbbing hill,
while inside
Who knows what mystery
of water, blood and silence
it's growing up,
like a fist that opens
the son you planted
in the center of my fertility.
