Masters store located near the Toorak Road-Auburn Road intersection which is one of 18 stores in Victoria for the Woolworths-Lowes (USA) joint venture in hardware. Opened in April 2013 it was built on a long abandoned gasworks site adjoining the now busy Monash Freeway with the compact site meaning it was provided with underground car parking. Heavy losses against incumbent rival Bunnings in part due to an aggressive expansion (often next to Bunnings stores) and low sales have seen Woolworths abandon the category altogether and announce closure of the chain by early December 2016 with a liquidation sale starting August of the year. These shots were taken early in the closing down sale.
The stores (including several development sites) have been sold to Home Consortium who will reconfigure the sites to a combination of Spotlight, Anaconda, JB Hi Fi, The Good Guys and Woolworths supermarkets. Rival Bunnings will take over 15 of the 61 stores open. Liquidation is being carried out by the Great American Group with evidence seen in the large 'STORE CLOSING' and 'GOING OUT OF BUSINESS' signs more commonly seen in the closing of large stores in the United States.
The inscription on the gravestone reads as follows -
To the Memory of
DAVID BARTLEMAN
Master of the Brig Alexander & Margaret
of North Shields
Who on the 31st, Jan. 1781 on the Norfolk Coast
With only three 3 pounders and ten Men and Boys
Nobly defended himself
Against a Cutter carrying eighteen 4 pounders
And upwards of a Hundred Men
Commanded by the notorious English Pirate
FALL,
And fairly beat him off.
Two hours after, the Enemy came down apon him again
When totally disabled and his Mate Daniel MacAuley
Expiring with the loss of blood
And himself dangerously wounded
He was obliged to strike and ramsome
He bought his shattered Vessel into Yarmouth
With more
Than the Honour of a Conqueror
And died here in consequence of his wounds
On the 14th. of February following
In the 25th. Year of his Age
TO commemorate the Gallantry of his Son
The Bravery of his faithful Mate
And at the same time Mark the Infamy of a
Savage Pirate
His afflicted Father ALEXANDER BARTLEMAN
Has ordered this Stone to be erected over his
Honourable Grave
'Twas great'
His foe tho strong was infamous
(The foe of human kind)
A manly indignation fired his breast
Thank GOD my Son has done his Duty.
English pirate John Fall, generally know as Daniel Fall, was hired by the Americans to sail under their flag during the War of Independence to wreak havoc on British fleets.
Falls attack on the brig Alexander & Margaret prompted the mayor of Great Yarmouth to write an angry letter to the Admiralty in London for not caring more about the Norfolk coast and for failing to provide the town with a single warship.
In April 1782, it was reported that Fall was moving into the Irish Sea and the East coast apparently heard of him no more.
The limestone memorial to David Bartleman situated to the west of Church of St. Nicholas gained Grade II Listed Building status on 26th February 1998.
I have to say a big thanks to fellow Flikr diecast enthusiast Cheliman. Although he lives in the U.S. he kindly posted out this Matchbox Renault Master ambulance to me completely free of charge! A true gentleman! Although I dispair at its plastic construction, the overall casting is nicer than I expected. The front end really needs more detailing though, come on Mattel! Mint and boxed.

The Columbian press was invented by George E. Clymer, probably in 1813, inspired in some measure by the earlier Stanhope press. It was designed to allow a whole newspaper page to be printed in a single pull. The press worked by a lever system, similar to that of the Stanhope press and quite different from the toggle action of the slightler later English Albion press. Clymer's new iron press was first advertised in April 1814. It went on to be manufactured in great numbers for over a century, in both America and the United Kingdom. It is sometimes, incorrectly, referred to as the 'Eagle' press due to the characteristic bald eagle counterweight which usually sits on the top lever. Some Columbians have the counterweight in another form (a simple ornament, a lamp, urn, or simple knob).
This 1837 version is seen in action at the Eagle Press Print Shop in the Edwardian Town Beamish, the printer is preparing some A3 posters for an upcoming event.
The luxurious master bedroom; the crown jewel of the house. Note the seating area and the beatiful dark wood armoire (containing a 27" TV, 500-channel satellite TV and DVD player) and the doors out to the balcony.
The Simpson-Lee House by Glenn Murcutt; The windows of the master bedroom are right above the rainwater collection tank. The water reflects northern sunlight into the bedroom to keep it warm and bright in the winter.
No lack of Light, Freezing Temperatures, or rain can keep me from BBQing! In this particular circumstance There is actually a Kobe Beef Steak on this grill...Yummmm....Next time I'll need to open the grill to reveal the flames!
