The art of flintknapping is a skill that has been forgotten since the end of the Bronze Age. Master technologist and archaeologist Karl Lee demonstrated how to make arrowheads, spearheads, hand-axes and scrapers from brittle flint. Our members had the opportunity to make their every very own Paleolithic stone age tool.
Eduardo Guibelalde, maestro de esgrima de la Universidad Complutense, ofreció una clase magistral el lunes 7 de abril en el Campus de La Berzosa. Acompañado por dos de sus alumnos, Guibelalde realizó una exhibición con las tres armas de este deporte: florete, espada y sable.
Además, los alumnos de la Universidad pudieron practicar algunos ejercicios de este deporte, bajo la supervisión del maestro, que les indicó las primeras pautas a seguir.
Esta primera clase magistral, organizada por el Club de Deportes, nace con la intención de ver qué grado de interés hay entre los alumnos, profesores y personal, para poner en marcha la actividad, de manera regular, el próximo curso.

Inspired by London Underground signs, this session was led by maker Helen Carnac, introduced the process of applying enamel to metal resulting in participants making signs or badges to take away. During the session Helen described the process of enamelling and its historical context. Through a series of short demos participants were taken through the basic principles and methods of fusing vitreous enamel to metal, before trying the process themselves and creating a small panel or badge during the process.
Helen Carnac is an artist, maker and curator who lives and works in London. Setting up her studio in the early 1990‘s, Helen develops projects using design methodologies that are rooted in an acute awareness of physical location, place and working practices.
This masterclass was in collaboration with Art on the Underground’s, Underline programme which is a series of art and music commissions for the Victoria line, launched in July 2015.
The Crossrail of its day, the Victoria line from Walthamstow to Victoria was opened in 1969, the first new Underground line to be built in 60 years. With commissions from three visual artists, an architectural collective and a composer, Underline will draw inspiration from the character of one of the most intensively travelled lines on the network, and the organisations, communities and histories connected by it.
Underline launched with Giles Round’s commission, Design Work Leisure in July 2015. Liam Gillick will screen a series of new films shot across the Underground network. Contemporary composer Matt Rogers’ new music commission will be performed by members of London Sinfonietta live in stations on the line in spring 2016. In summer 2016, architectural collective Assemble will develop a new public site at Seven Sisters. Closing the Underline series, Brixton-based artist Zineb Sedira will present a new film work and photographic series currently in production.
