So, I can't remember exactly why but I did end up getting the most recent Aquaman from the S.H. Figuarts line. I think maybe it was out of sheer pity for the product line that I threw it into the preorder bin at the same time as Guile.
Haven't seen the movie, but I know enough that I recognize he's got his primary weapon in the set, along with two heads, some hands, and some admittedly pretty neat looking effects parts. Now that I think about it, I feel it was the effects that actually sold this set for me, or at least the ones on the trident did.
So where to begin. I guess we can talk about likeness. It's OK, not too bad but once you get close up it's not as accurate as the Black Widow figures I have... but it IS more accurate than the Captain Marvel releases. Proportions are a bit on the lean side but ultimately you get a relatively buff looking guy. Texture on the outfit does a good job of mimicking the actual suit in the movie.
With regard to articulation, it goes without saying that the primary head is terrible. They did split the hair into two pieces that theoretically allows the upper half (with the actual face) to swivel independently, but an insufficient gap to permit this movement. The actual body itself is about standard for a Figuarts release. It's not exactly as articulated as the Fighting Body but you can get some decent poses in, including those with the spear.
Speaking of which, there is actually a panel you can remove on the lower back of the figure that allows you to utilize one of Bandai's stands, which are, of course, sold separately.
Paint Applications are generally quite sharp. Detail paint only comes into play on the hands and the face, so the rest of it is a nice, smooth application of one metallic colour. On the plus side, like with Green Goblin, it's safe to say that there are very few unpainted surfaces on this figure, if any at all, as I think even the hair/beard is painted. The masking of the hands is quite sharp and work on the face is generally sharp. There were a few minor paint errors observed on the face, though it seems a good number of those were dried paint flakes that were easily brushed off.
Build Quality wise, everything fit together and holds as it should. No obvious poor finishes were observed, and there were no tolerance issues even on the smaller parts like the flips on the waist, or the tabs for inserting of the effects parts. I didn't experience any random limb popping while trying to pose the figure.
