Colorado Springs, CO - This morning glow was captured from several miles north of the Garden of the Gods and wasn't my initial goal. I really liked the way the sun lit these iconic red rocks as it popped over the eastern horizon. This perspective also shows much better the massive bulk of the Rocky Mountain foothills as compared to these giant red rocks which when photographed from within the park often appear much closer in size to the surrounding mountains.

CN M323 drops downgrade into Brantford with a massive 7 unit consist.

As luck would have it, 323 is currently detouring through Southern Ontario to avoid congestion on the former WC and DWP.

Trailing 4th and 5th are EMDX 1605 1606 on their way to Winnipeg, presumably for testing.

The bridge is a better composite from the other side but the sunset was happening behind me so tried a composition from here. I'll have to come back for a sunrise shot in the future.

So I have had time to look at some of the pictures I have taken in the last couple of days. I decided to post these six as they kinda' cover all the action of the work. Hope you like my rendition of waves in action. Big breaker! Middle Cove, NL.

The amount of people chasing the 4014 was impressive. I met people from all over the world that came to see it and celebrate the Golden Spike anniversary. Everywhere you turned there were people trackside to see it. UP could not ask for a better commercial. And too their credit, they had the local and state police assisting in crowd and traffic control during the mayhem.

How is everyone doing?? I’ve honestly missed you all. As you can see, it’s definitely been an age since I’ve last posted here; looks about a year. In fact, I also haven’t even been viewing anyone’s photos on any social media (I emphasize that last part because I really don’t want anyone to think I’m on the apps while just ignoring everyone).

Basically I’ve been in a photography blackout—aside from the occasional photos taken during family events the past 1.5 years. Furthermore, we haven’t even been going to Disney much which, obviously, has been my night photography zone. I’m just so incredibly jaded with their current direction since the pandemic, even before it. The crowds have been next level insanity and at entirely pre-pandemic levels; maybe even worse due to everyone now taking their previously postponed trips. Then there’s the overall current lack of features being offered while an ever increasing cost is enough to turn most people off. You pay all this money for an annual pass but you’re now not even guaranteed to be able to go?? I find that inexcusable and disingenuous; especially for one of the largest corporations on the planet. I’m convinced they’ll never eliminate this reservation system as it helps them with staffing levels and other analytics. Their 2pm park hopping policy is also complete BS. Also, this 50th anniversary is a massive dud. I think the 15th anniversary was the first I experienced and it was light years better than this current one. How is that even possible?? They painted the castle and added some tiny temporary golden statues. Way to go all out for such a milestone. The pandemic is not an excuse for the anemic showing, either.

I’ve been a local passholder since ‘95 along with having first visited the parks in ‘83. So I’ve definitely seen it all and there have been plenty of peaks and valleys over the years. IMO, they’re in a massive trough right now and I don’t know how it’s going to turn out. And to be fair, I’ve felt that they were on a downward trend a while before the pandemic. For instance, taking away our beloved MSEP!/Spectromagic! How is WDW seemingly the only resort in the parks umbrella that doesn’t have a night parade?? In any event, I realize individual experiences vary and many people are definitely enjoying themselves, so I’ll just end my rant. The bottom line for us is that it’s simply been feeling like it’s more of a task to drive over to the parks versus being a fun night out, as it should be.

As for the photo, this was Jan of last year. So you can notice the 50th decor hadn’t yet been added on the castle. There was a lot of blue I this light transition captured, a Disney favorite. I kept going back and forth with either keeping the strong blues, trying to remove them , etc. But my editing is so rusty, this is where I ended. Lastly, It “appears” empty but there were lots of people next to and behind me. It’s why I couldn’t get a more direct straight on shot—which irked my anal retentive self.

Thanks for bearing with me and hopefully I can get back to editing more shots I’ve had on file. Wishing everyone well; sincerely.

Mount Massive near Leadville, Colorado. It is the second highest peak in Colorado (14,428-foot or 4,398 m), with nearby Mount Elbert only 12 feet higher. Massive is the third highest peak in the contiguous US, with Mt Whitney (14,505 feet or 4,421 m) taller than either Elbert (14,440-foot or 4401.2 m) or Massive. The name Mt. Massive is appropriate as it has more land mass above 14,000 feet than any other peak in the contiguous US. Mt. Massive actually consists of five summits, each of which is above 14,000 feet, and its summit ridge is over 3 miles long.

The closeness in elevation between Mt. Massive and Mt. Elbert caused debate in the early 1900s about which was actually the higher mountain. To support their cause, proponents of Mt. Massive built large piles of stones on its summit, seeking to unequivocally lay claim to the highest peak in CO. Those supporting Mt. Elbert promptly destroyed the stone piles.

Ascending Mt. Massive is rated as a class II climb, which means it can be hiked without the need for technical climbing. This is on our bucket list for this summer.

The main top stupa of Borobudur.

Borobudur is a Buddhist stupa and temple complex in Central Java, Indonesia dating from the 8th century, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of world's truly great ancient monuments, the single largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth, and few who visit fail to be taken by both the scale of place, and the remarkable attention to detail that went into the construction.

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one."

"Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egotism.

Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.

In 1984, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure.

Orwell feared that what we fear will ruin us. Huxley feared that our desire will ruin us."

Post-process tutorial shot.

For many years I have wanted a panorama photo of the City of Vancouver's skyline at sunset. Earlier this spring I finally was able to secure the perfect location for this shot and I mistakenly thought that one image with a wide angle lens would suffice. I was so wrong. This is where a panorama photo is essential. I was able to get back to the location in the summer where I shot numerous series of 12 exposures each while the sun was setting.

This image of the downtown core of the City of Vancouver under a sunset is a 12 exposure panorama photo of the Vancouver skyline. The finished size is 28,000 pixels wide, or 20,000 in this cropped version. It could be printed on a billboard with excellent resolution.

I have been sitting on these images for months because my computer was too slow to process a massive file of this size. One computer upgrade later, and I was finally able to complete the processing.

Ben Avon (1171m) is a very large and complex mountain sprawling over more than 30 km². The summit plateau is dominated by granite tors, one of which forms the summit. From the broad summit plateau ridges lead in almost every direction, allowing access from Glen Avon to the north, from Beinn a' Bhùird to the west and from Gleann an t-Slugain in the south. To the west of the summit lies the massive corrie, Slochd Mòr, with its rocky cliffs, and the approaches from the south and west take you close to the corrie rim
