Day 4 of 7 of the black and white food photo challenge. I found this huge mortar and pestle on clearance at Costco earlier this year. I have to admit I haven't used it much but am ready to start spicing things up. Anyone have one? What do you use it for mostly?
There's so much wrong with the internet, but at least there is Mashed Potato Time. American robin, backyard Olympia.
Manze's Pie & Mash shop, Chapel Market, Angel, Islington, London. Opened 1911.
Update July 2019: sadly, this shop has closed forever, after serving pie and mash for 108 years. London pie and mash shops are in sadly in decline.
If you would like to know more about Pie and Mash, then I wrote this article about it:

Love the simple design of this potato masher and the play of light and reflections and repetitions and curves.
Mash presses in one of the more modern areas of the former Molson Coors South Brewhouse, in Burton-apon-Trent. This site closed in early 2018 and is now being stripped out, this area, along with the more modern additions will soon be demolished.

Well this little witch turned down the Monster Mash party for her own Witch’s Mash!
Pull up a seat, open those ears and listen to the eeries and howls crawl out of that piano and hit the keys for a good ‘ol Halloween brew of a party!
Lots of goodies at lots of great events!

Austin had some time between tests today so he worked up rabender825's MASH helo and put it into a lil scene. He changed a few pieces here and there. Because rabender825 had not finished his helo yet, Austin made do using Justin Davies' engine design. He used PA's lil Willys jeep as the transport. Hope you like it bud.
Camp Creek State Park and Forest
Camp Creek, West Virginia.
"Mash Falls lies within the forest of Mercer County along Mash Fork – which empties into Camp Creek. Standing at 8 feet tall, this outdoor gem plunges over a sandstone ledge and is located next to the parking area. Take a short walk on the gravel road, and you’ll discover a second waterfall. Reach the perfect viewing platform as you travel Mash Fork Falls Trail – arriving at the optimal vantage point." (wvtourism.com)

"Camp Creek State Park and Forest is known for beautiful waterfalls and great camping. With nearly 6,000 acres of lush forest, 35 miles of trails and seven miles of seasonally stocked trout streams, there is something for every hiker, biker, horseback rider and angler to explore and enjoy. The pristine area was officially named a state park in 1987 after 550 acres were marked off from the Camp Creek State Forest. Located off I-77 in Mercer County, the park is great for family trips and stop-overs during a scenic drive through southern West Virginia." (wvstateparks.com)

THE MASH IS THE BEST:
Make a mash as you usually would. Sprinkle with salt & freshly ground black pepper, add a tablespoonful of dried Greek oregano, throw in a good knob of unsalted butter, fold over, and let melt.
Throw in a dozen or so black Kalamata olive (quartered), a good couple of forks full of capers, and adjust the texture with leftover cooking water. Blend with a serving spoon.
Meanwhile, start sautéeing your veggie 'sausages' — I used 'Meaty Gourmet, Classic BBQ' — in a bit of olive oil, and when they're about 1/4 done, throw in some small onion slices and let brown with the sausages.
When all's done, serve up and enjoy! :-)
