A potato masher, tater masher, bean masher, pea masher, masher, or crusher is a food preparation utensil used to crush soft food for such dishes as mashed potatoes,[1][2] apple sauce, or refried beans. Potatoes mashed using a potato masher tend to be fluffier and lighter in texture compared to other methods of mashing, because use of the device reduces cell damage to the potato, releasing less starch.[3]
Day 4 of 7 of the black and white food photo challenge. I found this huge mortar and pestle on clearance at Costco earlier this year. I have to admit I haven't used it much but am ready to start spicing things up. Anyone have one? What do you use it for mostly?

Macro Mondays and the theme of "Kitchen".
I had a few ideas for this week and I decided to go with this Potato Masher.
After setting up on a dark reflective surface I placed two flashguns one with a Green gel to the left of the subject and the other with a Red gel to the right and just behind.
Once I got the exposure sorted for both flashes I used a spray bottle to squirt water drops on my subject while taking exposures until I had enough choice for upload.

Update July 2019: sadly, this shop has closed forever, after serving pie and mash for 108 years. London pie and mash shops are in sadly in decline.

accpanied by fresh mash (simple, fairly dry, seasoned with salt, pepper, & Maggi) to soak up the leftover cooking juices. Even better than the first time around — delicious!

Austin had some time between tests today so he worked up rabender825's MASH helo and put it into a lil scene. He changed a few pieces here and there. Because rabender825 had not finished his helo yet, Austin made do using Justin Davies' engine design. He used PA's lil Willys jeep as the transport. Hope you like it bud.
We need more pie and mash shops. Delicious with the liquor (a runny green pea sauce). I'd give the jellied eels a wide berth though.
North Florida Gulf coast near Panacea. The black on the sand is probably tar from an old oil spill (probably the British Petroleum platform fire). Since this isn't a panorama it doesn't have the vertical lines defect that Apple hasn't fixed (after many years). iPhone 8+ photo.

119 in 2019 - number 41 Everyone loves pie
We don't really have a meal routine in our household … there are only 2 of us. But today I just fancied pie and mash for lunch, so that's what we had :) Now I'm a stuffed bunny, so must go walk off the food in a mo :))
Chicken and Ham Hock Pie from Asda, along with wonky veg. Eastbourne Asda sell a wonky veg box for £3.50 and it's brilliant, veg just like I remember as a kid.
Well, not really but it is a potato masher!

THE MASH IS THE BEST:
Make a mash as you usually would. Sprinkle with salt & freshly ground black pepper, add a tablespoonful of dried Greek oregano, throw in a good knob of unsalted butter, fold over, and let melt.
Throw in a dozen or so black Kalamata olive (quartered), a good couple of forks full of capers, and adjust the texture with leftover cooking water. Blend with a serving spoon.
Meanwhile, start sautéeing your veggie 'sausages' — I used 'Meaty Gourmet, Classic BBQ' — in a bit of olive oil, and when they're about 1/4 done, throw in some small onion slices and let brown with the sausages.
When all's done, serve up and enjoy! :-)
