I imagine this would make a good testing site for NASA's robotic rovers, like Spirit and Opportunity.

The terrain is so rugged with little vegetation that it feels like you are on another world. Indeed, with the reddish earth (from iron), you easily can imagine you are on walking on the surface of Mars.
