The common marmoset usually lives in the mountain forests of northeastern Brazil but has been introduced to many other areas in South America. Found a group of common marmosets in a green park near Rio de Janeiro during my last layover...can you see the two babies on her back? so well camouflaged...

Another shot of my short encounter with these beautiful common marmosets during my last layover in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
Two weeks ago I was with the Sony Alpha 6600 in the redesigned South America building in Cologne Zoo.
Now I've tried it with my Nikon Z6II.

Ich war vor zwei Wochen schon einmal in dem neu gestalteten Südamerikahaus im Kölner Zoo, mit der Sony Alpha 6600.
Jetzt habe ich es einmal mit meiner Nikon Z6II probiert.
We visited a wonderful little zoo in the Pocono Mountains and had such a lovely day. Forgive me, but there will be many more zoo pics in the coming days😄

Meet the newest additions to the zoo.
Four marmosets came about 3 weeks ago and they are just so cute. I am so intrigued by their human like little faces.
They are also a challenge to photograph because they are so darn quick and do not stay still for long.
Their enclosure is quite tricky but the morning sun it gives you the black background which saves me a lot of time when I edit ;)
I was lucky enough to be able to go in their enclosure with them and feed them a couple of days after they arrived, which was incredibly awesome to have them running and climbing all over me and even trying to groom me.

The tail of the Tufted-eared Marmoset is not prehensile so they have big hands, like a squirrel. This one was part of a family group living in north east Brazil.

A day at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Common marmosets are listed as least concern on the IUCN red list.
Marmosets have morphological adaptations to their teeth, their lower incisors are long and very sharp, marmosets use these to gnaw holes in tree bark to produce sap, which they then feed off. If you look closely, you will notice the gnaw marks in our oak tree.
Marmosets live in extended families, typically containing up 15 members, only a few members of these groups are allowed to breed.
Usually the groups contain 1-2 breeding females and 1 breeding male, when the breeding male dies the group will fission with another group that has a breeding male. Breeding members in the group utilise non breeding members to help raise their young, behaviourally suppressing the reproduction of other members in the group.
